General Coach Candidate News

Two options:

  1. Dusty demanded/negotiated it.
  2. Michigan wanted an "out" in case Dusty was a bust.

take your pick.

I'd say more likely option #1. After Juwan, UM probably felt similar to the way we feel now: Any candidate will be an improvement.

Per Rabjohns..."Indiana vs. Kansas State is also in the works for 2025-2026"...Marquette and Kansas State is a strong beginning to a non-conference slate. If (big IF) we hire Brad Stevens, it would not be surprising to see the Hoosiers put into a Feast Week event (unless the Marquette game is part of an exempt event and we'd play campus games against a couple of smaller schools with Marquette as the headliner). Kind of odd to have scheduling stuff being done with no coach in place, unless....

Maybe... but with teams of that caliber, we can be sure that Woodson is gone... no cupcakes to squeak past...

I forgot to look back at our conversation but that was on 3/23 as well.  Plus, as we all know, Scott wanted a zoom call, but Woody said Mike Woodson doesn't come to you... so unless Scott jumped in a plane that day then it would have been shortly after the Masshole comment on the 19th that they started talking.

Found this Pat Forde article when looking for dates.  I don't remember if from before, but this comment does support the idea that Buckner was pretty forceful in the selection. Indiana hires Mike Woodson: Will he succeed as Hoosiers head coach? - Sports Illustrated

"How’s this for an echo chamber: A former basketball manager under Knight hires a former Knight player, with considerable urging from another former Knight player. One of the first people athletic director Scott Dolson (head manager of the 1988 IU team) thanked Monday was Quinn Bucker (point guard on the undefeated ’76 team). A person familiar with the inner workings at Indiana, who predicted several hours before the news broke that Woodson would get the job, described Buckner as “a bulldozer” in the process.

The strong-willed Buckner has bulldozed his way to a lot of success in life. Perhaps he will bulldoze a path back to greatness for his alma mater. We’ll see."

For the record, I am low-key awesome.  I would add as a signature but I am not that awesome.

Buckner bulldozed the IU program into the dumpster... the @$$ must be so proud...

Logging on after a full day of meetings and seeing 30 new pages always gets the juices flowing. That was quite the catch up session to finish my day. We deserve good news, so I’m believing it’s gonna be good news. And regardless of what happens, Woody is gone. Nice win last night too. Things are good.

No kidding, nothing but meetings today and as I walked out the office door I opened this thread with WTH!!!!

Can I interest you in a hackysack or a fingerboard?

I’m 56, soon to be 57 and I’ve got a hackysack in my desk drawer in my classroom! I used to “hacky” with  my students and they faded out a bit. I pulled it out earlier this year and boys said, “What’s that?!” Lol

Would K-State be neutral court too? Need a marquee OOC game in the Hall...

I don't anything indicating that has been determined yet. However, since we know the Kentucky game is at Rupp Arena and we know Marquette is in Chicago, I would imagine any further power conference opponents would be scheduled as home games. Meaning, I'd guess Kansas State would be a home game. I'd argue that is a good opponent but probably no better than South Carolina was as a "marquee" non-conference home game.

Just in case I might need @IUHAHN81 to go to the garage and dig his fishing pole out. Not the light one either. Get the heavy-duty one.

Joking for everyone on BTB

Chris…. You’re not allowed to joke. Didn’t you know that?

Soo funny!  I just realized I was planning on skipping a year. I said I was 56 and soon to be 58! Lol

I meant soon to be 57! My Neuriva pill is backfiring! lol

Yeah, skipping a year would be a BIG mistake.  I’m going to hit 75 at the end of February.  At least,  I will be in Tucson for a few days to celebrate.  lol. :))

Just listened to Osterman on the radio and they asked him what % would you give that Brad Stevens will be the coach. He said around 5%, so I guess he didn't hear about the meeting in Miami LOL!

…him NOT saying 0% and instead 5% tells me that he’s heard something.
