My source told me a few hours ago that the "Holtmann" news was not real. I then told another poster here in a PM the same over an hour before Rabby tweeted it.

I know some doubt my "sources". Just trying to take away some of that doubt.

Ah gotcha. I follow you on Twitter so I am familiar with you. I know that not all scoops pan out. Heck I have good info on Woodson but even that is from his perspective and may not match Dolsons. This stuff could be 100% accurate at one point in time then something can change but it does not impact whether the info was good at one point

Chain of events:

1.  Goodman claims that IU had zeroed in on Holtmann, who rejected them saying “he had a source”.

2.  247 reports it, citing only Goodman’s report.

3.  Rabjohns tweets it, citing 247 report whose only reference was Goodman’s report.

4.  Rabjohns deletes the tweet, assumedly after checking with the athletic department, saying it was not true.

If Goodman’s info is bad, it gets multiplied.

Doyle has reported that Dolson is using back channels to contact candidates so that he maintains plausible deniability. Goodman said IU zeroed in on Holtmann, Rabjohns said Dolson didn't talk to Holtmann. So it is entirely plausible, and perhaps even likely, that IU reached out through some intermediary, but is now trying to use the Dolson didn't talk to him line to cover its tracks.

What’s your point?

Point is that Rabjohn's latest is entirely consistent with what Goodman reported.

Maybe, or perhaps he was ignorant of how absolutley dumb Goodman is and trusted him as a reliable reporter.... instead he called BS

It’s kind of confusing to me that Dolson is getting crapped on by some about the process. If he were to make a quick fire hire of a low tier candidate I could see the uproar but he appears to be doing his due diligence and exhausting all his options. He said in the beginning it was going to be tight lipped and largely so it has been. If the money is there and SD is trying to pull out all the stops on top targets and he is simply told no... then I don’t see how this is on him. Indiana is the top job available no doubt but in 2021 and the state of the program it’s a lot easier to say thanks but no thanks. This is a tough job and fans are starving for results.

Not really.....he specifically used the term “zeroed in on”.  Again, that’s not something you do without contact from the guy heading the search.
