It'll be a year of minimal watching for me, more than likely. Our games are a grind to get through. I find little enjoyment in watching Archie ball. Even the wins aren’t enjoyable a lot of the time. I just don't know why they would bring him back if the buyout money is there. Just look at his results: T-6th, 9th, T-10th, T-10th in the conference. Zero winning conference seasons. 33-44 record in the Big 10. 0-7 against Purdue Zero NCAA tournament appearances Worst recruiting class in the conference coming in. We either fire him after this season or we fire him after the next one. Does Scott Dolson really want to go through another season like the past four? There's little reason to believe next year will be any better than this one. Waiting a year saves money but it sets us back quite a bit in recruiting. Firing him after this season makes the most sense, imo, because of the free transfer season we're having after this season. A new coach could step in this year and put together a good roster through transfers. Wait until next year and it'll be several years before we're competing again. Fan apathy will only get worse in that situation. pumpfake, Loaded Chicken Sandwich, taco corp and 3 others 6

That is bad for all parties, including Archie. He would have to have a MAJOR year next year to get any kind of leeway with the fans. It should be over regardless of the finances. I don't think we could go wrong with Beard or Mack. They're motivators and their teams love them much like our football team rallies behind Tom Allen. I think that's the kind of guy we need to bring in. Tony Bennett could be on that list too but he's not leaving VA. JaybobHoosier and Deserthoozier 2

Love this. because IMO you need to hire someone who has had a 67% or higher with power 5 coaching experience. That is where we went wrong with Archie, he didn't have the power 5 part Bowhunter, JaybobHoosier, lillurk and 2 others 5

He has proven he can make the tournament in multiple conferences, he has a winning track record with experience, and he has shown he can recruit in Indiana. Barring an absolute miracle he’d be gone after next year. And that miracle probably isn’t happening because our roster just won’t be good enough. He’ll be a dead man walking all year next year, and he and everyone else will know it. IU would essentially be punting on the 2021-2022 college basketball season. Just seems like a toxic and completely avoidable situation. pumpfake, IUc2016, Loaded Chicken Sandwich and 1 other 4
Trish Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Chris Mack coming to IU seems about as likely as Brad Stevens coming here. He's made for Louisville. HoosierDYT 1

Yeah he gets to March Madness but he hasn't had much luck there. One more elite eight than Archie. We want another CTC with Sweet 16's and second round appearances? I don't see much potential in a Scott hire. I think he's peaked. Of course we can all say "it's better than Archie" Okay sure but we're making a full on circle with CTC level success. We need a coach with at least an ounce of potential. Crean would still be at IU if he would have been more consistent in making the dance. That’s the minimum bar. Be I. The tournament 9/10 years. However if they are going to come down on anyone I would say it would be the school that was already on probation, and committed more penalties. lillurk and Chris007 2

Gazing into my crystal ball I see a coach in the republic making a lot of calls behind the scenes to Indiana. Will he be successful in his quest to be our next coach? Doh! Outlook is still cloudy. Trish Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Wild idea. I know it appears money isn't an issue with the buy-out, but what if we extended Archie and then fired him? His pay-period would be longer, but the dollar amount would be smaller each year. Saving us money this summer or next summer. I need to go back to sleep.. JaybobHoosier 1
NOLA Hoosier Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 An honest question: Why would putting up with a lame duck coach for another year make any more sense than firing him now (and firing up the program again with a new hire)? I have hardly watched at all this year and there’s little to no chance I watch any games next year. And with AH open, how does he think there won’t be boos and jeers every night from the few fans left? Not to mention the loss in merchandising. However, us bitching aside, I know there is roughly half of the fanbase who will watch regardless of how they play, and a lot of that contingent are big sunshine pumpers, even in circumstances like these. Would Dolson count on their support and forgo what the “serious” fans want?

No one is squeaky clean (although it would look terrible for an incoming coach).

That would also basically be admitting to the NCAA that your program broke rules and there could be consequences that come with that.
