Just lol at the thought of hiring Brad freaking Brownell. I don’t agree with it, but there’s at least an argument for McCollum. Hes young, he’s done extremely well in D2 and is 30-3 his first year at Drake. It’s unknown how he’d do at IU, but he’s won big at the levels he’s coached at.
Brownell would just be the ultimate “this program is dead and I suck at my job” hire by Dolson. He’s been incredibly mediocre for 15 years in the ACC. There’s just nothing there to rationalize it.
It would be on the level of a woodson hire and yes basically be saying the program is dead. I think people would really start to question dolson the genius.

I think there's an argument for Brownell. He's had high success the past two seasons in the NIL/transfer portal era while some coaches have quit (Wright, Bennett) or struggled a bit (Self, Drew.) He's from Indiana and has some recruiting connections and relationships already because of that. He could be a unique fit of right guy, right place, right time. A little Mark Pope. I'm not saying his argument to be the Indiana coach is the best one, but you can squint and see it being successful.

Exactly.  The worst possible hire is the one where we know exactly what we're getting and what we're getting simply isn't good enough. The fans would be calling for the firing before the opening press conference.  At least with an up and comer there would be hope.  Maybe it's our turn to finally hit big.  Lord knows we are due.

If he hires Brownell I’m calling it for it right now.

I think while a lot of us have differing favs, I think we can all agree (maybe not Kathy) but the program really needs an inspiring hire at this time in its history. While McCollum has question marks, he has some history that can inspire fans if communicated correctly and not just "he comes from a D2 background".....Stevens would be inspiring as well for obvious reason....the risk is LOSING THE FANS....IU basketball can easily become the old IU football where half the stadium is filled.....

Just an opinion from an old italian "businessman"

If Brownell wasn’t from Indiana, he wouldn’t even be mentioned. And that’s the part that frustrates me the most. I don’t think he gets it, but I mean just being mentioned is enough to make me cringe.

While I do think there’s some truth to this, I do think he’d still be mentioned but not as strongly. His recent success doesn’t go unnoticed, i mean we mentioned Vandys coach ffs lol

It's like the Beard RMK connection being talked about. It doesn't matter, tons of coaches have RMK connections and most of them wouldn't be successful at Indiana. These are not good criteria for hiring coaches.

No ill will towards Brownell personally but I maintain it really doesn’t make lots of sense unless you get into a UCLA situation where like EVERYONE else says no. No indication that’s the case here.

Agree with this. If we end up with Brownell, that means either Dolson loves these searches so wants to run it back in 4, or we whiffed on about 12 other coaches.
I’m going with he won’t be our coach. Not worried at all.

I am adamant that we don't need an inspiring hire. Inspiring or not, the coach has to win games (and not embarrass the university off the court.) We don't need to win the press conference or off-season. We need a basketball coach that will win games.

Dolson can’t even lock up Ben freakin McCollum but he’s got Brad ******* Stevens signed, sealed, and delivered since February… lmao

I'm not saying I believe Stevens is signed sealed and delivered....but if he was, and had been since February, why would he have had to try to lock up Ben McCollum?  I mean if Brad was the guy and had a verbal as has been mentioned (again, I don't know that he has), he wouldn't be locking anyone else up...

just a thought

Yes, I told you.

Hey girl, good seeing you on here.  I've been trying to educate them myself without showing them our hand so I'm glad to see you helping.

They need to let the process play out and know that everything is in good hands.

Show some patience, partners.

Go Hoosiers!

RTZ must be dangerously close to the truth. The Kathy unit has been thawed and deployed.

Edit: And now all of a sudden Brownell is today's smoke? Yep. Sounds about right.

I think KathyC might be AI. No one actually speaks on sports board like she does, right?

She's such a weird combination of dismissive, self-righteous and oddly formal.
