General Coach Candidate News

Another way to look at the timeline: if we don't make the tournament and there's no announcement on Monday, it ain't Brad

I'll add this: if there's no handshake deal with a coach by now, it's malpractice. Scott has had 5 weeks officially for this search (really a year) and portal backchanneling has been happening for months already. Whoever the next coach is will need to have been aware of the job they're stepping into and started evaluating the roster and potential additions.

Broadly agree but sometimes the way it works in a scenario like you describe is that Monday is Rumor Day and if you know where to look/who to trust, the writing is on the wall.

Then the info comes Tuesday, for practical legal or strategic communication reasons.

Y’all thought I was unhinged with McCollum yesterday. (I was, he would be a gigantic risk, WHY? Get him in 6 years after his next stop)

But Brad ******** Brownell?  Oh hell no!  Homie don’t play that. Period.

Oh, we will march.

Call it Occupy 17th Street

I’m sure he’s a fine person and better than decent coach, but also 100% the type of hire fans should probably try to bully them out of making.

And you were getting on me for doing this exact same thing last night. HJ I can't believe you :-)

I am adamant that we don't need an inspiring hire. Inspiring or not, the coach has to win games (and not embarrass the university off the court.) We don't need to win the press conference or off-season. We need a basketball coach that will win games.

Brownell does not give me hope that IU will start winning....

Totally could be the case. Thanks.

It’s “you’re” . . . Remember, I reside in academia.

I’m relatively new to the board but quickly learning why everyone reacted the way they did with Kathy showed up lmao. In retrospect the Ron Swanson “she’s here” gif was genuinely perfect.

Not what I said, implied or suggested. We aren’t talking directly with active coaches yet. To their representatives either directly or through an intermediary? Yes. There’s a distinction in there. No need for me to try and explain it further.

Question.  So the rumor on the board was that Shaka Smart interviewed last week.  I assume yo believe this to be false based on this statement?

Me too, but Pope and Kelsey were less than inspiring hires and have worked out well, so I'll hold out some hope. Plus, I really am tired of hearing how amazing things are every off-season. If Dolson believes BB can win games in Btown, I'll be right with him (until maybe I am not a few years in.)
