McCollum isn’t even Iowa’s first choice, apparently. Hiring Iowa’s backup plan would be a total IU move, though.

I'd hire DeVries over McCollum too given the choice between either and assuming both were available and interested. Very rarely do schools get their top choice however.

Yes, Woodson was an underwhelming hire…but it’s believed his hand was more forced last time around. It doesn’t sound like that’s the case this time around

Frankly I don’t really believe that his hand was forced last time, but if the best Dolson can muster this time is McCollum or Brownell, it shows it wouldn’t have mattered last time either.

what is there to do with this info?

Assume that the only possibility those planes would fly from those places to the same place, is to finalize an agreement with Our Guy.

Ben seems like the coach you land at Wisconsin or Iowa and you regret it because they'll play a style of basketball for the next 15 years and they'll be good here and there with some runs in March.

It's just not a sexy hire, could be a great hire, could blow up like Archie. If it is indeed a mid-major coach, we'll officially know the Indiana job is simply just not good anymore.

I totally understand what he's saying and, if that's actually his mindset, want nothing to do with him at IU. Sounds perfect for Iowa.

Iowa basketball isn't even their #1 WINTER sport lol

McCollum makes perfect sense to me.

Occam's razor, also known as the principle of parsimony, suggests that when faced with competing hypotheses or explanations, the simplest one is usually the most likely correct one.

For me? Ben McCollum is our "Occam's razor candidate."

Is Brownell our Schrodinger's Cat?

Both IU's next coach and not IU's next coach at the same time?

I get it’s his home but I don’t get the football school thing.  Like saying I’m really good at coaching basketball but please don’t watch me do it.

…or he knows that if the search has reached his name, IU has struck out on who knows how many before him… maybe IU has reached a level of desperation to offer more money to keep him from choosing Iowa.

Would Brad Brownell even be mentioned if he wasn't born in Indiana?

I mean he's had a top 20 KenPom team the last two seasons and has decade plus worth of experience coaching P5 basketball. Would he be a candidate at Duke or Kansas? Probably not, but Indiana isn't close to Duke or Kansas right now.
