Artie86 Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 I know X and the coaching staff all knew he was going to be granted a waiver, but did all the portal players really think that too? It seems like since X officially got the wavier for NCAA, "the fish are bite'n again!”….JMO....lol thebigweave, Henryville Hoosier, hoosierfan6157 and 1 other 4 Quote

We saw the per 40 minutes number being frequently used last offseason for Geronimo as proof that he’s a stud, but we know how that turned out. ? Jordan Geronimo's per 40s weren't great entering last season. In 2021-22, he 13.8 points and had 11.3 rebounds per 40. Race Thompson's per 40 that year were 15.5 and 10.6 and people weren't calling Race a stud. thebigweave 1 Quote

Time to make sacrifices to the basketball gods to avoid this. I'd feel differently if he brought shooting or something this team actually needs, but he's not a scorer and has no business even thinking about taking a 3. He's a body to spell Reneau but he's not good. A move like this makes me think they put their eggs in the Ledlum/Knecht basket and are getting desperate. Hoosierfan2017 1 Quote

You can’t win a lot of games if Walker is asked to play big minutes….BUT you can lose a lot of games if you only have three bigs on you roster and one gets hurt. He was a 10 minute guy on a final four team. That’s not chopped liver. thebigweave, jonz44, Stuhoo and 3 others 6 Quote

Miami didn't have much of a front line, tallest player to get more than 12 minutes was 6'7, so it's not like he was getting beat out by better bigs. Quote

Our roster isn’t good enough at this point to be rounding it off with an 11th or 12th guy. We lost 4 starters off last year’s team. The additions we make should be starter-quality, not end of the bench insurance policies. Hoosier987 1 Quote

The order in which those pieces get solidified is not entirely up to the staff. Its timing. If they miss on a couple guys they like for the top of the rotation and there aren't any out there, at the time, that they determine fits the top, why would they sit around and not plug the other spots on the roster they think need addressed? We don’t have unlimited roster space. We have three scholarships available. If they don’t plan to use the third available scholarship as has been reported, that leaves two scholarships. Doesn’t really give you much to work with to land guys for the top of the rotation if you’re going after an end of the bench guy with one of the two. Quote

So your solution is to go after solely the big fish, not pursue back of the rotation guys until all big fish decide, and then?? thebigweave, NVFalcons1990, CSP and 2 others 3 2 Quote

Seems like they want 1 more big (bench) and then a starting caliber wing(2,3,or 4 that can shoot). Leaving 1 spot open for someone coming available unexpected. Just to allow that flexibility and it keeps a scholarship open for a high school kid in the next class. Allowing the young guys like Gunn, Cupps, etc to get backup minutes. With the rate MR would foul as a freshmen a 4th post player is necessary imo. just how I’m seeing it play out. No inside info. sweetpain, BGleas, pumpfake and 4 others 7 Quote

Agree. It just seems everything they've done/tried is exactly what they should be doing. Ledlum didn't bite, Ware+Sparks did. Fill other holes, find skill sets that make you versatile. The timing/or worry of "getting Walker before a wing" isn't really a thing.. fairly easy to multitask. BGleas and Ngw7183 2 Quote

Going after an end of the bench frontcourt player when we have big holes on the perimeter. Here is who we have at the 1-3 right now: Xavier, Galloway, Leal, Gunn, Banks, Newton, Cupps. Is that supposed to inspire confidence? It’s a guard’s game. We lost our best guard in JHS, and we also lost our best shooter in Kopp. Trey shoots well on low volume, but we were already last in the conference in attempts per game. Half our three point volume is gone. Who’s taking 3s next year? Gunn? He shot 8%. If the staff is keeping a scholarship open, I would much prefer we use both scholarships on improving the perimeter.
