NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Kalen Glenn in portal, believe we recruited him pretty hard out of high school. Pretty underwhelming freshman year considering how bad Louisville was this season, but did start the last third of their season and had a couple high scoring games. Offensive skillset doesn't impress me and he's not a threat from the perimeter at all, but he's got some length and strength that could make him an elite inside out defender. Believe we will see several more Louisville transfers by end of day, something to keep an eye out on if Woodson does indeed hire his buddy Kenny Payne.

And, he's got magic hair

Javon Small publicly stated an hour ago that he’s not officially in the portal so maybe something to keep an eye on. Oklahoma State did just recently part ways with Mike Boynton.

2023-24 Stats: 17.2 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 1.9 APG (46.7% FGs, 47.0% from three)

Status: In the portal

Eligibility: One Year Remaining

Pepperdine found a gem out of the junior college ranks in Michael Ajayi who became the Waves' leading scorer this season in his first year of Division I basketball.

Ajayi is a big, strong, and versatile wing with a seven-foot wingspan who impacts the game in just about every way. He can slash, make shots, rebound, and defend multiple positions.

Ajayi has already heard from Arizona, Kansas, Baylor, Indiana, Portland State, Washington, Gonzaga, UCLA, Ole Miss and Arkansas amongst many others.

A west coast kid who went to a JUCO in Washington and then Pepperdine and now has a Gonzaga offer. Not holding my breath here.

I will be interested to see if Woody and staff target kids with multiple years of eligibility remaining, or focus on single year kids...IMO target too many single year and even with success next year, you are right back to where you are currently the following off-season. Especially if we see further attrition this year beyond what has been discussed on here (mgbako, cupps, reneau, etc. leaving), with additional departures possible/likely the following year as well.

Obviously you want the best available, but would hope the staff is thinking about roster management from that perspective when hitting the portal. Would much rather land multi year kids vs having to play the portal lottery for a bunch of roster spots each year.

The challenge with that is you're asking kids with multiple years of eligibility to commit to a coaching staff that is effectively on a year to year contract. Another reason the "one more year" stance with Woodson is dumb.

Just a quick heads up on people following portal entries.  Watch for a notation "Do Not Contact" indicating the kid already knows where he's headed next.

Ah those are the ones IU probably has locked up since we are in much better shape with the portal this year.

Just for ghits and shiggles:

Dug, Trey, MM, Rooths, and Reneau might put a raise in my brow.

Its interesting but the rim protection is still a problem. I do not see how we trust MR to log major minutes at the 5 and stay on the court. It somehow seemed like he cleaned the fouls up a little but he still basically averaged a foul out per 40 minutes lol I think it was like 4.4 fouls per 40.

We had the best rim protector in the conference this year and our defense was statistically terrible. Maybe rim protecting is overrated. Your comment on Reneau foul issues is spot on though.
