Arizona seems like the most likely from a “fit” standpoint, but I wonder if they have the money.

Obviously could be, and probably is, enormously exaggerated, but I just don’t understand the value of deals like this one. This kid’s playing 1 year and that’s it. He rolls an ankle or tweaks a hammy or just has a bad night in the round of 32 and you’re going home without winning a thing and he’s off to the League and you got exactly what for that investment?  Way too specious for me.

It’s probably funded by Mike Repole who is worth well over 1B, so he probably just found the money in his couch cushions. It’s not sustainable in general, but I don’t think one offs like this bother someone like him who is seemingly a massive fan of the team

I’m sure you’re right. I’m always gonna look at this stuff from a ROI perspective which is how someone without unlimited resources thinks, and Repole is definitely not that. Also, Pitino has insinuated a few places that this might be his last year. If so, money will be no object.

Yeah I think the framing from the uber wealthy is a gift (or donation, I’m not sure if they can make it tax deductible) rather than a true investment. At least in the relative infancy of NIL. It would probably get pretty tiring to be making a 10M gift every year lol
