Seems like a complete waste and filling both wasn’t an issue “back in my day.” I was a senior in 2017 and Thursdays and Saturdays were the nights students filled up Sports. I don’t know why, but that’s just what everyone did. It would pretty much be empty every other night. Sports was usually pretty packed after like midnight on Thursdays. Brothers/KOK/Sports/Upstairs would usually all be packed on Thursday nights when I was at IU. I wouldn’t go out as much on the weekends because drinks were way more expensive. Quote

RaceToTheTop Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 This talk of how Bloomington was 'way back when' reminds me that the academic math coach was looking for someone to teach his members simple BASIC and Fortran coding. He asked our current IT guy and he had no idea about it. I learned BASIC in high school and Fortran in college. FML. johnsoniu 1 Quote

Got through the prerequisites as quick as I could to join that team. Now my work days are full of JavaScript RaceToTheTop 1 Quote

Show of hands: how many folks here were actually AT the notorious Indiana State game? I was. And I remember going in being SO pumped, thinking this was a new era for IU basketball and that the fanbase was raring to go after the darkness of the Crean years (which in retrospect, LMAO). I genuinely believed that the place was going to be packed and rocking that night. Instead, I got there and discovered the Hall dotted with empty seats. It might've been marginally better attended than the usual cupcake games but it was still only maybe 70% full, and a huge number of the people who were there were ISU fans. That, more than the pathetic showing in the game, was what really had me concerned that night. Then, even weirder, after the game my buddy and I went to Trojan Horse and it was like 10pm on a Friday night and Kirkwood was completely empty. I was just like "what's happening to this town?" I was there as a birthday gift from my now wife. It was awful. I was even at Archie's presser when he got hired. Everything was bizarre. I was like you-excited. I remember the players walking out of the tunnel and they looked like zombies. Vauxhall and IU 1 Quote

I do think the pavilion in the back and the quota for the upstairs hurt Sports. It was always the place to end the night. Like you mentioned, after midnight everyone would head to sports, but it was always good the entire weekend. Outside when the weather was nice was always fun, including the upstairs deck. thebigweave and Hoosierfan2017 2 Quote
lillurk Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Watching major conference tournament semis, I’m struck by how many big wings the best teams play — sometimes even four at a time. By my count Archie recruited four of those, all in his first class except one: Langford, Hunter, Anderson, Geronimo. I’m simply not sure why you’d try to win with mostly traditional posts and small-to-average height guards. But then again I don’t think he really utilized those guys well, including Smith, so maybe he hurt his chances at more. Quote
DLG3 Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I’m so impressed with Illinois right now. A little salt in the wound to think about Underwood being hired same time as Archie and I think he’s got a team that will be my pick to win it all. Lots of teams that I can see making a Final Four run...Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, and yes Purdue. Quote

Inflation is out of control. Wednesday was 15 cent beer night back in my day (00-04). Yogi’s and scotty’s were my spots. I was inconsolable when I found out yogis was closing. Was encouraged when I heard they found a new location and were reopening. Was quite torn when I realized that new location was the scotty’s I loved and didn’t realized closed. Went to Sco-gi’s last time I was in town but it just made me miss both of the originals. thebigweave and zsmithey4 2 Quote

I they rely so much on Dosunmu and Cockburn and I think the way the Big Ten is called is going to see Cockburn get limited minutes at some point in a major game in the tourney. Honkyman Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I wouldn't be surprised either if Illinois won it all. They are the most talented team in the conference. And they have pretty good coaching, too. The two coaches in the conference tourney final game were both hired at about the same time as Archie Miller was hired by IU. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote
