Chilly willy's off-the-cuff post about recruiting only in-state players got me to thinking: Who are your starting five of the best native Hoosiers to play for our program?

Here's one person's list (that would be me):

Steve Alford (New Castle)
Calbert Cheaney (Evansville)
Kent Benson (New Castle)
Don Schludnt (South Bend)
George McGinnis (Indianapolis)

I realize this squad leaves us good down low, but lacking on the perimeter. But those are my guys and I'm sticking to them.

And in all honestly, my pick of Schludnt is sort of in homage to my mom, an IU grad who knew Don in high school.

Guess Alford will have to play the 1 and Calbert the 2.

PG - Yogi

SG - Alford

SF - Cheaney

PF - Henderson

C - Zeller

Plenty of shooting, ball handlings, athleticism, and can play at a fast pace.

just going off of players I’m old enough to remember. The 70’s glory years were before my time. :)

Gotta find a spot for Jay Edwards. Replace Yogi or maybe 6th man.

You’re not going to beat this are you? I mean, Jared Jeffries as your 6th man or put him in the place of Don?

Bobby Wilkerson (how do you not put the best player from the best NCAA Team ever on this list?)

Yogi

Alford

Cheney

Zeller/Henderson :92:   (I get 6 correct?)

Could argue for Eric Gordan and DBaily as well)

I loved watching Jared Jeffries, but Don Schlundt is the best Hoosier ever imo.  He was an NCAA champion, an 3 time All American, and our all time leading scorer for 32 years.  He was only passed as scoring champion after the 3 point shot was invented.

Isaiah Thomas ring a bell with anyone?

Yep. He was a star at the University of Washington, who later played for a half-dozen or so NBA teams. ... I'm wondering if you might be referring to Isiah Thomas? If so, yes -- any Hoosiers fan is well aware of him. He's one of the all-time greats at IU. But he's from Chicago. This thread was about great Hoosiers from the state of Indiana.

Sorry, I missed the native part.
