No I didn’t. Alford hasn’t been good anywhere why would it be different here

First let me say this, I do not want Steve Alford. I just have a feeling that is where this goes.

Second, you cannot count LSU as a success in this instance. My argument was that Orgeron sucked BEFORE he got to LSU (just as Alford has). The fact that he has been very successful at LSU furthers my point that maybe Alford will do that at IU. so yes, thank you.

Exactly everyone wins at Dayton, just look at our current coach. Very rare a coach doesn't win at Butler too. I know nothing about SDS but Steve Fisher used to be there. I think Seton Hall has a good coach, isn't he from there or around New York.

Hey Chris I was just wondering ( I'm sure you've touched on it before) but given what we know so far in the Archie era, do you think he is the long term answer for this program? With Glass retiring would the new AD bring in his own guy for next season or would you expect him to let Archie get a 4th year? Is the APR still really hurting Archie? He only has 4 Crean recruits on his team.

Just for the record, I really like the guys Archie has brought in. TJD will be an All-American candidate next year. Jerome is a wild card. I personally think he should be starting right now. However, Phinisee, Brunk, and Armaan are role players-as of right now. (Rob and Armaan could be very good as upperclassmen). I like Leal, Geronimo, and Galloway but I think of them as role players too. Archie has to get a grad transfer for next year that can shoot it and handle the ball. They are out there. Nothing against Justin and Al, but I wouldn't cry if they left the program to play somewhere else next year.

I thought he was, but I'm starting to wonder. But he gets next year because of the buyout. Unless Cuban or someone like that steps up to buy him out, he gets year 4. The new AD probably won't be here till after the school year starts next season. If I remember correctly Glass isn't leaving till July.

If Scott Dolson gets the job I would look for Alford since they both were a part of the 87 team. Reynolds I don't know who he would bring in but I would expect an IU guy.

Great post Chris - thanks.

Three reactions to it:

  1. Mark Cuban's net worth is currently estimated at $4.1 billion. Yes ... billion.
  2. Mark Cuban is a Bob Knight guy through and through. He flew in to Bloomington for the RMK game. The only true Bob Knight coaching tree/Pat Knight close friend on our pipe dream wish list is NOT Steve Alford or Dane Fife, it's Chris Beard. In fact Beard has more time on staff with RMK than Fife, Alford, Lewis, Guyton, Wittman, and Woodson combined (ten years to a combined zero).
  3. Chris Beard's buyout is $3 million.

Chris Beard is the guy I want. Just don’t have hope that it would be possible to get him out of Lubbock

My thing with Chris Beard is he's never left the state of Texas. Grew up there, went to college, got his masters there. Their building the new 30 million dollar practice facility, I just don't see him leaving that.

Yes I love the story Cuban tells about going to the president's house about donating some money to the university when Coach Knight was still the coach. He walks in in jeans and Knight looks at him and says who the hell are you? RMK had no idea Cuban was worth millions back then.

I think you will see Chris Beard as the new coach in Austin Texas. I've heard those talks have already started.

Do you think Saturday was the final straw for Archie in terms of the upperclassmen and he finally goes with his guys?

I mean most of us have wondered why they still played but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt as the coach.

Alford? Really? I would drop my tickets and donations in a heartbeat if that happened and know many others that would do the same. He doesn’t get redemption for covering up rape and victim shaming. Sorry hard, hard pass on that one. Makes me ill just thinking about it.

Cuban looked like he had just ate some raw beef on Saturday. Could clearly tell how pissed he was at the current product.

I sure hope. Quit playing Green, Smith, and Durham.

I would bench Green. Not sure about Durham or Smith.

Green leaving next year could be worth 3-4 extra wins as the amount of shots he jacks up when he is in there will no longer happen and he misses way more then he makes.

Yup. He has one or two games a year where he goes off. Durham and Smith should not be starting. They are role players at best.

I doubt you would drop them if he won.

I wouldn't be starting Smith. He can come off the bench behind Hunter.
