Uninspiring. Ball St is decent- but not close to B1G caliber. Inability to run inside, dumb penalties, poor tackling, lack of a pass rush.....ugh, not a very auspicious start. Penix definitely has potential.

In other words IU football...

Look I am not saying IU was great today or anything, but did anybody watch other big ten games?

Nebraska struggled at home against south Alabama. 35-21

Purdue lost at Nevada. 34-21

Minnesota barely beat FCS South Dakota State at home. 28-21.

Iowa is only up 24-14 in the fourth as I type this against another MAC school, Miami (oh).

No IU wasn’t great. But they were were far from terrible.

People are just ready to get pissed again. This was the most electric offense we’ve seen since Sudfeld/Coleman, and it’s not even close.

There was so much wrong with our play today, specifically on defense. A lot also changed this off-season in terms of coaches. We also didn’t see what we know Scott can do, nor did we truly see Sampson James.

Overall, lots to improve upon in order to make and win a bowl, but I’m excited by this offense. DeBoer made some great play calls, and thank god we have an excellent kicker.

Go Hoosiers.

Ramsey hung more points on Ball State last year but yes let’s refer to this offense as electric

Yeah I'm not seeing it either. Our starting running back carried the ball 19 times, averaged 2.5 ypa, and had a long of 7. Against a MAC time. We had 457 yards against Ball State last year, only 17 fewer than this year. One more first down than this year. If anything this shows that the offense putting up good numbers against ball state doesn't mean much.

Idk man. I expect this yr to be a big one. Ypa doesn’t say much or give a full picture if you ask me

You do realize Penix led one of those TD drives last year against Ball State and another TD was an 86 yard punt return for a TD by J-Shun Harris....and that was IU’s 3rd game last year with Ramsey at QB and he put up 24 points and threw for 173 yards sooooo that argument is moot. The D not being to get off the field on 3rd downs was the only thing keeping us from hanging 50+ on them. I don’t know how anybody could want Ramsey in over Penix at this point. We’ve seen what Ramsey can do and what we know is, we can’t win the big games with him, he’s had his chance, time to move on.

So because Penix beat a Ball State team that won 4 games last year by a whopping 10 points he's suddenly the savior that can win the big games for us? I don't know which game you were watching, but we were nowhere near hanging 50+ points on them. It was not the defense's fault that we didn't do that. People are really trying hard to convince themselves that this year is going to be different.

Dynamic a better word? The Ramsey/DeBord offense was so limited. This offense is well rounded, and I’m hoping they tighten things up as the season progresses. New QB and new OC - I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that they will improve.

So what if they are dynamic. It’s more important to be effective. The old Peyton Manning colts offenses were very limited but they were very effective.

Nobody said he is the savior I was just pointing out that last year we scored more points on Ball State but that wasn’t because of Ramsey which is what Brass Cannon alluded to. As far winning the big games, that remains to be determined. I was just stating the fact that we know what we’re getting with Ramsey and that he just doesn’t cut it so why would we continue to stick with him.

Im talking potential here man. We watched one game. Did you watch what Penix did in the second half?

It was about as effective than this one though?

Okay?  A good second half so what Ramsey had a good second half last year against Ball State didn’t mean crap at the end of the day when conference play started.

Penix threw it 40 times racking up the yards isn’t exactly unexpected   He completed 60 percent of his passes and had more picks than TDs.  So maybe he’s dynamic but big deal

Not really really about Ramsey per se. just that last years offense while being less of a buzz word was more effective

We know what we're getting with Ramsey when he's coached by a horrible offensive coordinator. Would he be the same with the new one? Maybe, who knows. Our defense is bad, and our offense had one drive that lasted 4 minutes or more. That's a really bad combination. We need to be able to run the ball, and struggling to do that against ball state is not a good sign.

The offense last year averaged 415 yards per game and we scored 26.4 points per game. The offense yesterday might look more exciting than last year's but it wasn't much different in production.
