From the Marquette 247 - The Golden Eagle (it’s one of their insider guys). Ryan James is the Minnesota Gophers insider. Just wanted to give an idea how they are feeling.

Update From 247 Ryan James MN

I just checked with multiple sources. A few notes to take in with a recent update:

- Second hand, Marquette coaches think this is a dog fight with Indiana to the end

- Marquette is still the team I think he is favoring and that's heading into the visit. Marquette has great facilities and as much spent on hoops athletics as nearly any team in the country. They have been here five times full staff on the private plane.

- With the family it's all about the relationships with the staff in terms of the effort they put in, what they present, and how much they trust the staff.

- Marquette and Indiana seemed to have develop that relationship and trust over the longest period of time.

- Minnesota has done a great job in the last several months with Lindsted and Pitino really getting after it. Dawson has a real interest in staying home, but it seems like a little to late deal.

- I think keeping Minnesota in it is kind of a mix between Dawson having interest in staying home, staying in a big city, and them likely wanting to maintain good local relationships.

- I don't believe this is a "thanks but we are moving on" meeting. I think it's a "there is still some consideration" meeting. So while IU and Marquette are the favorites, there is still some interest.

Don’t like that most insiders feel Marquette is where he is leaning, getting the feeling we are gonna finish runner up.

Hmmmm... I liked it better yesterday when we were all doing our best Hoosier Guy impersonation and saying he is 100% coming to IU. Can we go back to doing that? :(

Lets not forget that Marquette, theoretically, will NOT get the last word.  Arche is planning/will visit him after the visit, according to multiple sources.

Need USPS to weigh in, but I thought a dead period starts Sunday night.

Whether we get him or not, I can't think of anything the staff could have done differently. And, Garcia seems to be doing what he needs to do to be certain he makes the right decision. This to me is how the recruiting process should work. From all appearances, he is a high quality kid and whatever the decision I wish him success.

I won’t fault the staff if we don’t get him but he is our last shot at an instant impact player so if we had a shot at a few more we might still be in good shape but...

We will be fine without him but a kid like this, added to the current roster is the difference between being an 8 seed that has an early exit to a 3 seed that makes a run. We’re close but need more talent

dead period Starts Monday and ends the 14th.

Early signing period is the 13th-20th.

In my opinion the later Dawson signs the better for IU. If he signs on the 13th I think he goes to Marquette and I like IU’s chances less but if he waits until later and allows IU to come in for an in home visit I like IU’s chances

The other thing I found interesting about his Marquette visit other than what I posted last night is he didn’t announce his arrival on Twitter or Instagram. No pics yet of him in a Marquette jersey like other schools. May be nothing, but that has me semi-worried.

You just never know.

It’s great that his IU visit apparently went so well.

Marquette may have had the edge, and if his Marquette visit is awesome too? Oh well. Or, two Marquette players that aren’t getting along could have it out within earshot of his parents; you never know.

If true on the not socializing part maybe he knows IU is where he wants to go and did this visit out of courtesy since they have been recruiting him for a long time. Fingers crossed!
