I’ve been thinking about 3 distinct alternative timelines regarding Indiana basketball all starting in 2008:

1. In 2008 Iu doesn’t self report and Kelvin Sampson ends up taking Eric Gordon to the final four and ends up winning a championship with Zeller in 2011-2012 or in 2014-2015 loaded with Indiana guys.

2. Tommy gets fired after his 3rd consecutive losing season and we hire Brad Stevens who takes Zeller in his second year to a national championship. He’s still coaching at IU today and we are back to being a blue blood.

3. We fire Tom Crean after the 2014/2015 campaign and we hire Archie. We give him 5 years to build a program and after next year we let him go to hire Chris Beard (which would be next year. A seamless transition and no rebuild. A bob Knight disciple who runs a similar style as the Hoosier faithful are used to. Bringing us back to blue blood status.

I struggle with Number 1 a lot. Phone calls now being allowed and seeing all these other universities like Louisville stick with their coaches for far worse infractions makes the struggle worse. What could've been? Most likely Final Fours and a good chance at a National Championship.

With that said - 11 years later - I think Archie is our guy.

Just curious..If IU doesn't hire Mike Davis in 2001 who did you guys want to be our next coach?
At the time....Bob Huggins, Rick Majerus, Billy Donovan and then Steve Alford. In hindsight? Jay Wright, Mark Few or Bill Self with a definitive no Alford.

I remember at the end of the 2003-2004 season, I had about enough of Mike Davis, my dream list (as I discussed with my college roommate at the time) was Thad Matta (Xavier), Mark Few (Gonzaga) or Rick Barnes (Texas) .... there may have been another coach or two on that list but those were the main ones
