WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 He’s being brought in to be a Stretch the floor forward that has to be respected. It’s as simple as that. Evan Fitzner also thinks he is more than a spot up shooter and wants an opportunity to prove himself. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners thebigweave and GloryDays 2 Quote

The fans seem to think he got a raw deal even. I think that the big thing to remember is that he was the sixth man on a top twenty-five team that had just a seven man rotation. He had more minutes per game at St. Mary's than McSwain, Hartmann, and Justin Smith did here. Honestly, I think the hope is offering IU what Hartmann did in 2014-5 and 2015-6 but with the possibility of being able to play better defense down low. lillurk 1 Quote

goonaha Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I still dont get how a 2 year starter is a role playerTo me 15 mpg is the definition of a role player. And that's what he averaged sophomore and junior year. "Starter" isn't always the most descriptive term.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app BtownBanner6 1 Quote

I don't expect him to dominate inside, but really can't see him playing on the wing. I would also think that 6-8 mins/game would be a wasted scholarship unless he has some very solid intangibles & leadership. Only wasted if that scholarship was going to someone else more valuable. People seem to overlook that aspect of this commitment. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app RaceToTheTop 1 Quote

It's not a wasted scholarship regardless of how many minutes he plays because it was just going to sit dormant anyway. mamasa and Class of '66 Old Fart 2 Quote
Popular Post chicagoHOOSIER Posted May 9, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 9, 2018 He is a senior who played the pack line defense for 3 years. That is two more years than anybody else on the roster has played at this level. He is a 6'10" wing or stretch 4 who has been a reliable shooter, particularly from distance, and he hasn't turned the ball over at an alarming rate in the past. While I am not predicting this to be the starting lineup Day 1 or even the group of 5 receiving the most minutes per game, I expect to see this personnel group on the floor at times, given Archie's penchant for playing upper classmen, and I expect this group to be very successful +/- together. Green Langford Mc Roberts Fitzner Morgan Fitzner offers a dependable and experienced outside shot, while drawing a big out to the perimeter, allowing Langford and Morgan to work their games mid range and down low. On the other end, he probably knows almost instinctively by now where he is supposed to be on the floor on defense, and what he is supposed to be doing there, and can communicate where others are supposed to be, and what they are supposed to be doing there in given situations during games to all of the rest of our guys who have one year experience tops playing the pack line defense at the collegiate level. I think his presence on the floor saves Archie a lot of time outs, and Archie's timeouts seem to carry a good amount of value. Coaches who sign transfers gain the added advantage of having seen what these players can do against Division I competition. Players, typically, make the jump in search of more playing time. It's win-win, when it works. There's a good chance it could indeed work out well in the following instances. Here are the 15 impact transfers to watch in 2018-19: Evan Fitzner, Indiana Hoosiers Previous team: Saint Mary's A two-year starter in Moraga, Fitzner chose to go the graduate transfer route for his final season after being relegated to a reserve role for most of 2017-18. At 6-10, he's a career 41 percent 3-point shooter (with an average of about three attempts per game) who holds his own on the defensive glass. dyedinthewool Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) Senior leadership is one of the attributes he brings this year. He seems to have a high Hoops IQ as well. Our lack of size inside will not be an issue this season. Can you imagine the competitive practices this summer? Do we have a better outside threat than Fitzner tlhis year? His decision to transfer was based largely on the fact he was relegated to a sixth man role after starting his first two years. The big question is, can he work his way into a starters role on a very talented team at IU? His GPA might have been another factor in CAM extending an offer. I think another factor in his transferring is that they changed their style of play to something that didn't fit his skill-set as well. He wanted to get on a team that was much more aligned with the way he likes to play the game. He wants a team that is a little less Virginia on offense. Quote
Brass Cannon Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I still feel this guy could start. He was a starter on the team two years they were ranked 34 and 15 in kenpom. Hes no slouch as a player and certainly fills a need. Imagine how many open 3s hes going to get with Romeo and Morgan. HoosierDYT, thebigweave, HoosierHoops1 and 1 other 4 Quote

I agree. IMO Moore isn't going to be a significant contributor (purely a gut feeling) and Archie's comments last night at the Huber Winery event didn't give me a lot of comfort that we can rely too heavily on De'Ron until maybe in the latter half of the B1G season.
