mdn82 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 You've called me out twice in this thread as jaded because IU didn't hire the coach I want. That’s a weeee bit different than calling you a WSU fan man. Plus you have said it yourself many times. Not sure why you are sensitive when I repeat what you say. Tbh I was kind of defending you saying you didn’t hate Archie.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave and Str8Hoosiers 2 Quote

No I’m comparIng any Wisky team vs Crean. He struggled vs them every time. He struggles against any team that slows it to a half court game. It’s why he would **** the bed in the tournament. If his team couldn’t run and gun and hit lots of 3’s, it was trouble. thebigweave 1 Quote

If they're shooting worse then they need to get in the gym. No one on this staff has done anything to make them shoot worse, such as change their form or like Crean did with Stan Robinson.....make him shoot with his off hand. Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Putting up 500 shots a day doesn't make a kid a better shooter. Putting up 500 fundamentally sound, repetitive shots a day makes a kid a better shooter. Just go back and look at Johnson, Newkirk or Hartman from past years. Their shots have deteriorated, all of them. That may be because this staff puts more time and emphasis on structural elements than constantly drilling skill pieces. But there's a price for that. MikeRoberts 1 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I am pro-Archie but I find it hard to believe that no other coach could have survived the gauntlet of the worst Wiscy team in decades, a bad UI team, Indiana State and IUPIUFWABC123 or whatever the hell that Fort Wayne school is called.I'll give you ISU and Fort Wayne. We need to continue to play those games and actually play and coach like we care. Would another coach have been able to get the team to make 3 of the 30 FTs we missed? I don't think so. The defense was good in the first half but the second half defense was fouls all day. To say this roster is poorly constructed would be an insult to poorly constructed rosters. This team doesn't do one thing at an above average level. It will take time. I know an excuse, Archie should be Marshall or Stevens, Johnson should be Ray Allen, Davis should be Shaq, one of Newkirk or Green should be Kyrie, and McBob should be Korver. I'm actually encouraged that Archie hasn't choked a motha (player) out. This team is better than it was at the start of the season. I believe there will be more improvement by the end. A 18-16 first round exit in the NIT with the three best players gone. Time, patience, and flipping FT practice. Up until tonight we’re something like 4 or 5-0 in games decided by 5 points or less. We actually play defense. Tonight was bad, but we take much better care of the ball. We consistently have great scoring plays coming out of timeouts. A huge reason we were even in the Duke game was because of Archie. I think people are way overestimating how bad this roster is. I don’t care what the stars are next to their high school ranking, this is a bad roster. The guards are terrible, absolutely atrocious. We have very little length, inaccurate shooters, and so on and so on. Morgan is a stud, but after that it’s a crapshoot. I give Archie a ton of credit for having this team 5-3 in conference coming into the game. HoosierAloha, Feathery, IUBBFan1970 and 1 other 4 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Is it too much to ask that we can get 7-8 guys out of 15 or so that can play basketball at Indiana University? That's all I want. A 7-8 guy rotation of guys that can play. I will say that at least I haven't complained about substitution patterns this year. Crean cost us 4-5 games a year minimum by his subbing madness. cappymo14 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 What was this Green at point guard thing the whole 2nd half? He dribbles too much. The offense relies on ball movement. Yes or no? He doesn’t move it. Where was Josh? He’s a better ball handler. Not great, but the best on the team. Not debatable. I just don’t understand. Green is a turnover machine. The one thing Illinois does very well is pressure the ball with their guards. Green was never ever going to stand up to that. Never. That’s a coaching mistake in my opinion. Don’t take it the wrong way, I’m not blaming Archie or saying we made the wrong hire. But that was a mistake. Out of the blue in a close game. There are coaches out there that might have beat IPFW, ISU, Wiscy, and Ill but I don't think they were a better fit and/or were a serious candidate. I believe that Archie will have IU in contention for the Big Ten and national titles for a long while. The problem is getting there isn't happening overnight like some, unrealistically, expect. That was one of the many things that drove me nuts with Crean. A few games ago I remember thinking how refreshing it was that Archie kept a lineup on the floor that was rolling for an extended time. What a concept!! Quote

Unfortunately there is no good options for starters let alone as a backup. People just can’t see that cause they are pissed we lost. We do not have a roster that is IU worthy.
