Post Game Discussion : Duke 91 Indiana 81

Recommended Posts

Played very well and I'm very proud of our guys.  We shot poorly from 3 and you can't do that against what might go down as one of the best college basketball teams ever and hope to win.  The future is bright guys.  Next season we'd probably win this game.

Duke really could go u undefeated.   I looked at their schedule and they only play Louisville,  ND, and Syracuse at home.  Their only tough road games are Miami and UNC.  But Maybe the Purple Aces will knock them off right before Christmas.

I seriously doubt pUKE goes undefeated. They really showed that the are vulnerable to a team that can attack the post and capable of shooting 3s. Their defense is honestly about mediocre, when IU can drop 81, im pretty sure a team like ND or UNC could hang them on the ropes. Plus I'm pretty sure that pUKE won't get the calls they got last night in a place like chapel hill.

Can't ask much more than that from the team.  Duke was just too big, too good, and too deep down low.

At one point in the second half they said IU only had one turnover.  Incredible, and so good seeing a team that actually takes care of the ball.

Team is getting better and last night was by far their best game of the year.  Not sure how much of that was genuine improvement and how much was being amped up for a big game, time will tell on that front.

Have to work on free throws.

Duke got the benefit of some terrible calls.  Allen got away with a blatant travel on one of his shots, and one of Duke's bigs clearly hooked Hartman right in front the ref but they called Hartman for his 3rd.  There was also a push off that wasn't called.

Yeah that did look like a travel but of course the old refs on the floor couldn't see it.

Thought Archie came in with a great game plan last night. Double the post and try to force some outside shots. Duke isn't a great 3-point shooting team by any means this year. Happy to see a shorter rotation last night. Would prefer to see Smith over McSwain.

I see people complaining about officiating, but I thought it was pretty even both ways. Duke's a really good team, but there's not a chance they go undefeated.

Assembly was loud last night. One of the 10 loudest times I've been in there I think, but the crowd still didn't seem overly engaged if that makes sense.

Encouraging signs from Indiana. Bring that effort every night and good things will happen.

I really feel like we've seen a steady progression of many things, many that are intangible.  Can't help but think that last night's game provides even more of a spark to put this team on a new level.

I'm so excited about watching this team and style evolve. Every game has revealed some progression. How are they going to build on last nights game?  Stay tuned.

We were up 63-59 with 11:39 left in the game. Coach K got on the refs and then the next 8 fouls were on us. That was per Gregg Doyal article in the star. 8 fouls in a row is a little much. Also first time since 96 that we have gone 3 games in a row with under 10 turnovers per game.

Future is bright.

Surprised we didn't move up in Kenpom rankings

We are currently #219 on defense. Despite the improvements on defense (which there have been), there is a long way to go on D. Duke can beat you in so many ways it's almost not fair but I thought we had solid stretches of good defense last night.

If you look at the box score, the overall stats are very similar between the two teams. We just missed free throws and couldn't convert on a couple threes.

Very proud of how the guys competed and how well Archie had them prepared. How would a Crean team perform while only going 5/21 from three??? I think there is a lot this team can accomplish this season and I'm excited to see how they progress.

I don't think I can overstate the importance of being competitive this year to the recruiting effort. Last night showed an overmatched team playing smart composed basketball against a team they had no right being on the same floor as. It was also a glimpse of what Coach Miller might be able to do once the talent gap closes. Kids contemplating coming to IU will know Coach Miller will put them in position to win.
