AZ Hoosier

Archie MIller Press Conference

You make the call with the offer in hand. You don't call and say "Brad, let's talk about this". What is there to talk about? What is there to learn? You know who Brad Stevens is at this point. I am fully aware the answer was going to be no, but you call with an offer and make him say no to the actual offer not the process. If you disagree cool. Agree to disagree then. Coach 'em up Coach Miller! Go Hoosiers!

Really don't think it would have made a difference. Stevens would know the job was his if he wanted it. They don't need to directly offer it to him.

Holy crap! I finished that presser and I didn't end up or have to buy anything! What a refreshing feeling from the last 9 years of buying in! I am really starting to feel that, we will just have to watch "basketball" next season and I'm kinda excited!

Any time the job is open you make a call to Boston and you OFFER him the job. Period. If/when he says no oh well. You tried. Not even making that call is ridiculous. You make the call and you make him say no. Now to be clear before I have people jump down my throat. I DO NOT HATE THIS HIRE. I am very much getting excited about it after the initial "meh" response I had. I just find it ridiculous that Fred didn't make an offer to a big time guy. Especially after his presser to start the process.

To be clear about this - Fred said Archie was the only one he OFFERED the job to. That does not mean he was the only one who was asked if they had interest in the job.

Here's my 2 cents...  I'm assuming there had been several feelers sent out to Stevens before Crean was fired, and his responses were probably consistent and that he was not interested.  Given this scenario, I think it would be completely tone deaf and disrespectful for the university to open their first communication with Stevens after Crean was fired with a contract offer.  It would appear as if we didn't listen to him previously and didn't care about what he said previously, which would likely turn Stevens off.  There's an art to negotiations, and they rarely begin with a full court press.

This was my big takeaway more than anything in particular that he said. He spoke well, but also seemed like he just wanted to get it over with because he has work to do. I loved it.
I also like that we now have a coach that talks like a coach. He doesn't talk in concepts and taglines. He just speaks like a basketball coach.
I think it's great.

Both of you guy get it. It wasnt about winning the press conference. He did certainly IMO but not because of saying and acting the way most want him too. His demeanor seemed like he just wanted to get to work. The way he talked about basketball in general excited me. He wasnt trying to make people like him either. I loved when he said I didnt recruit these guy but I tokd everyone of them their MY guys now. We finally have a true leader and someone who knows what it is to be a basketball player at a high level. I am all aboard the Archie train and absolutely love this hire. I cant wait for basketball season and am very excited about what we can do regardless of who stays or goes. That feeling hasnt hit me for awhile. Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers!!!!
