Yeah and last season they were in the Western Conference Finals. Things change in the NBA from season to season. One decent year and he's going to book it back to college? Meh.

The way people talk about this makes you wonder. Do they think BD would bolt IU for another job if the Hoosiers were to finish 5th in the league after his 2nd season?

It is the same logic, no?

Take this at face value, please.  Not as support.  If it IS Alford, he would be a very different coach at Indiana than he would anywhere else.  It's hard for me to explain that, and I know what his record is.  I just don't think he'd be as bad as many think he would, despite his resume.

I agree.

In regards to the BD rumors...doubt that all the posters on multiple sites are posting lies or that their "sources" are all lying. Some info is probably inferred or spun, but out of the half dozen (or more) sources, you'd think a couple had some legs. There is comfort in knowing that there is something to the BD talk.

Obviously I would love to have these Donovan to IU rumors be true, as he'd be a great coach for our Hoosiers, but I can't help escape the reality that all the pro-Donovan talk is coming from mysterious unconfirmed sources on IU message boards.  All of the public discussion is spinning towards Alford, and that bothers me, because I tend to believe the national people, and the local media, are actually hearing this Alford to IU stuff.  I want Donovan, but I'm expecting it to be Alford.  Just my opinion.

Rick Pitino 1987-1989 Knicks and 1997-2001 Celtics. A two and three year stint.

John Calipari 1996-1999 Nets. Three years.

Moral of the story. Good college coaches don't last long in the NBA.

Damn straight.
It just might be as simple as that.

He's a basketball junkie; he knows what IU basketball once was and he knows how many banners hang in AH.  He may see himself as the guy to restore the glory and hang the next banner.   He's got work to do, but the program isn't in shambles as it was when CTC arrived.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I just heard a new name from a friend in the AAU ranks.  I don't buy it for one second, but it makes some sense in a fishbowl.  Before you laugh...take a breath.  Geno Auriemma.

One of the best coaches in the entire history of the game.

However, he is turning 63 years old this week, so I can't see him being any kind of real option.
