Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

Recommended Posts

Here's one article... it's written from the perspective of Big 12 Football (Texas A&M)... but lays out the process fairly well... and it talks about the athlete having been recruited for a sport (or sports), and how that lines up with awarded scholarships. Interestingly, also, is that the process was instituted to prevent circumvention of the rules...

"In football, a counter who was not recruited and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who competes in football and one or more sports (including basketball) must be counted in the sport of football."

Very interesting. Thanks!

could we just start a kickstarter for Tilmon if we want him so bad?

Doug McDermott was a walk on at Creighton his senior year as well.

Wouldn't touch Bragg with a 10 foot pole. Wherever he ends up will be very telling.

If Josh Jackson wasn't going to the NBA he might be in a cell next to Bragg.

Is Josh Jackson a problem child also???

Yeah it seems likely we would have to go that route with a player or 2. Something just dawned on me as well. I wonder if Gelon would be willing to redshirt this year, putting him in the 2017 class. That way we would have 2 guys with him and Smith. Just a thought. I'm sure the staff will figure it all out.

I would like to see this and I'd like to see NCAA not count red shirts against the scholarship # even if you have to limit it to 2 per year or something like that. But in this scenario other than balancing classes it won't help our scholly situation this coming year.

I would definitely pitch in some money. It would have to be Gelon, Hartman or JBJ though. They could get in state help for academic part and leave us with about 15-25 grand to come up with. We can do this.

I'm no lawyer, but I will guess that NCAA rules prohibit student athletes from receiving money from a third party to pay for school in lieu of an athletic scholarship that was originally offered by the university.

Their parents can start a GoFundMe for a Christmas present that just so happens to pay their kid's tuition.
