Look at Kentucky after the Emory cash delivery - they were having greater success in half as many years. There is nothing about the program that is trending upward - especially recruiting. A good coach/recruiter can turn around a basketball program in 1-2 years especially with resources like IU has. brandct 1 Quote

Absolutely true. I'll even say that the right coach could have had us playing much smarter, tougher basketball right from the get-go without high-level recruits. One other thing that I've thought about over the last month or so: going back a year or two ago, when it looked like our 2016 recruiting was going to be, uh disappointing, I read repeatedly in various forums that the 2017 class is where Crean really needed to bring in a top recruiting class. Well, right now it looks underwhelming and will be far from a killer class. This will make twice that we essentially whiffed coming off a successful season of winning the big 10. recker222000 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Thank you. Sheesh...I feel out of the loop. If anyone really knows basketball, at least from my chair, it's pretty clear we're paying a guy $3 million annually to do very basic things on the court. Things any good high school coach could teach, and certainly any college coach with a brain and a little talent can adjust to. Personally, I know lots of alums who are upset Crean does so poorly recruiting in Indiana. Let's face it....lots of fans want to follow recruits, and we can't do it because they all go elsewhere. I seem to recall a couple players weren't big fans, according to the janitor.3.5 million a year to be exact. Fred has the negotiating skills of a three year old. Fred got schooled creans agent.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Quote

mdn82 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 That wasn't his only good info, but that told me he had good enough contacts to make the athletic department jump and probably start trying to figure out who he was. When the Heat players were coming into practice far in advance. Little things sometimes with injuries. Bad attitudes. Breaking rules. Coach search stuff at one point. Players that were or weren't good in practice (recruits). He Didn't know everything but seemed to be WAY ahead of anyone else. I will never forget it.Sent from my SM-J700T using TapatalkSorry I just don't recall those words ever coming out of his mouth. I remember him saying he was going to build relationships with instate coaches much like Tom Allen did recently which Crean never did. But I don't recall him saying he was going to lock down this state. He speaks much like a lawyer and I don't see him making that mistake. With the schools surrounding this state that is an impossible statement to make. I think the wording was probably different or you interpreted it different.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
