Brass Cannon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Thomas Bryan'ts significant improvement in defensive footwork & positioning has/will earn CTC & Staff their well deserved stay in 16/17. Barring injury and the small percentage chance that he will leave for the NBA, next year's team will provide Coach Tom Crean a healthy extension. The momentum is real!   Even if Crean wins a NC I would not support an extension Napleshoosier 1 Quote
Bowhunter Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 It's all about consistency for me. End the season on a high note and repeat. With that being said, I have to give coach Crean props for his improvement as a coach and getting through to the players when we asked him to. I think he has bought him self another year unless a total collapse. Yes the schedule helped no doubt, our guys are having fun out there and that's what it's all about. I remain cautiously optimistic, and have to give coach credit for turning things around. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

KingPG21 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 if we had lost to bottom feeders, the argument would be "Top tier times like (exampled above) don't lose to cellar dwellers." You choose to be pessimistic and post of it & I have yet to call you out on it. My comments are according to what I've seen this season. Fluent offense is what I see. Top 20 offense is what I see, and offense has not really been a CTC problem. I live life with a optimistic view. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for this year until proven different THIS YEAR. Dude, you're coming to the "Fire Tom Crean" thread, and basically telling others to eat crow, and you can't really disagree with my opinion because X, Y, and Z. That is great that you have a more optimistic point of view of the program, but you're coming to this thread and talking about how it should be locked or shut down. You're being antagonistic, whether intentional or not. There have been guys who have come to this thread who hold optimistic views of the program, but haven't been even the slightest bit antagonistic about it. If I went a found a Pro-Crean thread and started talking the way you are, if we start losing again, I would have people jumping down my throat because I would be antagonistic towards the purpose of that thread. Okay. But, we really shouldn't be giving him a pass going forward based on one year. It is just the whole argument of when do we really start judging Crean's tenure boiled down to a one season, or season by season case. I maintain it should be a whole resume situation. coonhounds Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Even if Crean wins a NC I would not support an extensionplease give reasons as to why you would say this. He is a good guy and has a team that isn't over the top talented like one of the Kentucky teams for example over the past several years. If he hangs a nc banner this year what plausible grounds would you have to not keep him? Our off court issues I agree were troubling but it appears those have been corrected and if there isn't any other issues this season can't see any reason not to bring him back? Never said fire him after doing so. But he's got 4 more years on his deal. 1 fluke run shouldn't excuse his past. If he wins a NC and can show consistency after that then I may support extending him. Popular Post schoosier Posted January 20, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 20, 2016 I have toned down my rhetoric based on the team's play the last few weeks. Crean should get the credit for this play just as much as the blame for most of his Indiana career record. While some have said he would not get an extension even after a NC run, the utmost importance of this feat would lead me in the other direction. Afterall, that's what we all want with good student athletes leading the way. But anything short of a very deep tourney run and no late season pukes, and I will be back to where I have mostly been. Crean has his biggest chance on the biggest of stages. It's now or never, and I will hope and wish him the best to get it done. For the glory of old IU! maxwell Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Not many coaches that don't renegotiate a raise after a title. I agree with you here. I also better understand where Brass is coming from with his concern for the execution of a consistent result. Freshmen improvement, future balanced rosters, defense, screens, and post feeds all have me stoked for the continued development of this team. With the players and families that are here currently combined with those that are to come, I believe Crean and staff are the verge of great things with consistent results. djsalway 1 Quote

Brass Cannon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Rather than renegotiate his deal I would offer him more generous incentive bonuses. But not lengthen his deal. Play hardball with him. I don't see anybody who would pay him more so I doubt he'd leave. Unless some ad hasn't paid attention last couple years which is possible I guess but still no great loss if he left Quote

Not alot of coaches win 1 so it is a game changer if he wins one. We would extend him and other schools would definitely be interested in him and we would look like clowns to let him go. coonhounds Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 This year is such a crapshoot though. Most people would know it was luck not skillif he wins one with this team it will be all skill and as noted above there is always some luck so I don't count that. They will have to be well coached to go all the way and I think most will agree. We don't have any d wade or cody level players currently so nobody can say that is the reason. Look how bad we were in Maui and Duke to go all the way from where we were at definitely crean would get credit from me Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 This year is such a crapshoot though. Most people would know it was luck not skill You can't luck into a National Championship. There are zero teams who have won a Championship without talent and above average coaching. You can luck into a better draw, you can luck into an easier game or two with upsets, but you can't luck into q championship. johnsoniu, Parakeet Jones, Stuhoo and 2 others 5 Quote
