Feathery Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Here's something I have been pondering for awhile.. Say Stevens does decide to return to college basketball next summer.. But it is not to IU. How do people react? I have no sources saying he will or won't it is just something I have been thinking about for awhile. If he comes back to college and IU didn't try to get him, then I would stop watching IU basketball. It would be the clear sign that IU doesn't care about basketball. If IU doesn't care, then why should I? WayneFleekHoosier, MikeRoberts, southernindianahoosier and 2 others 5 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Stevens as our next coach. But what if he still has a strong emotional attachment to Butler for what he accomplished while its coach and just isn't comfortable coming back to Indiana to compete against Butler for the headlines and the in-state recruits. Just a thought; nothing more. Happydaze 1 Quote

Something I haven't put much thought into. This could very well happen and am interested to see what plays out. I don't know how credible it'd be after just one season, but I'd be on board with it. I'd prefer Stevens though. Alford Bailey 1 Quote
MikeRoberts Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 If Stevens isn't available I would be happy with a Billy Donovan. 2 national championships, players in the NBA, NBA coaching experience, relatively young, would kill it at a Basketball school like IU Happydaze, WayneFleekHoosier, Alford Bailey and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post WayneFleekHoosier Posted December 19, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 19, 2015 I am still on the bandwagon. This is sadly the type of win that prolongs his stay. Long season left. Hard being a fan right now, because I want us to win so badly but I think Crean is still not our answer long term. Those 2 desires don't line up. Very difficult for me right now. You want the team to win and be successful but at the same time, wins like this just put another '+' in the retain CTC column. Had they not put it together in the last minutes and pulled out a win, the clamor for CTC's head would have become even more deafening given how poorly they played for the biggest majority of the game. 8bucks Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 There are more options out there than BS. Not that I would think he is ready but Butlers coach clearly has taught his team how to defend PU and he is known as an offensive coach mdn82 and Alford Bailey 2 Quote

Then you add how they blocked out. Had a guard coming down to help on boards and any time they dribbled down low. That team was well taught. Fluid offensively. You guys should see their pregame routine. It wasn't just shooting. They practiced from 3 angles being active with their hands defensively. IU practices shooting 3's. Even big Tom. mhoban Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 OK - firemeisters. Would it be OK to dial it back a bit now with this win?? Duke lost today. UK lost today ( yay!). The players sometimes do not execute. Should the bloggers demand for the those coaches to be fired? "Fire coach K!!" C'mon - way too much armchair head coaches. How many of you should be fired in your professional positions when you step in some mud? We all do at times. I do a lot of business executive coaching and all leaders have weaknesses. Not sure Crean has fatal flaws as many executives do. What many of these viewpoints do not appreciate is the responsibilities to multiple stakeholders of an AD and BB HC. Sorry but none of you could sit on that seat on the bench or you would be doing that... Quote

Sorry but none of you could sit on that seat on the bench or you would be doing that... As much as I am sure all of these people enjoy that contribution, lets please let those have their opinions. To add to your "opinion" about Duke and UK, those are teams that will be there at the end of the year. They do it year after year. No team is perfect, but you will see them at the end of the year. That is what these "armchair coaches" want. Will Crean do that? How many of us should be fired in our professions? Well, not all professions are designed equal. I feel as though I am pretty efficient in my job as a Biomedical Engineer for the largest hospital organization in Northern Indiana. I have numbers to back up that fact. Enough so, I am going through a promotion. Could I be the coach of Indiana? No. Could Crean be a Biomedical Engineer? No. Could he understand the basics of that profession enough to know when I am doing a good job if he watched me for 33 years? Yes. I feel as though I can make some pretty easy assumptions based off of that as well about his profession. Not all coaching jobs are the same. If you think he has done a good enough job after 8 years to stay head coach at IU, you just may have different standards than myself for this position. Which is fine. I disagree with you. 8bucks, Hoosierboy1980, coonhounds and 11 others 14 Quote

Even in their pre-game they were practicing against specific cuts Purdue would make so they would be accustomed to the angles. The way they rebounded or collapsed on larger players when they touched the ball was practiced and was well planned. Maybe it was a one off performance, but that team was ready for everything Purdue had. That isn't easy with that size. Napleshoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart and 8bucks 3 Quote
