mdn82 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 His buyout after this season is supposedly $14 million. There is some debate about that. On another site, someone posted that he was told by someone in the know that the money from the big donors is there to buy out Crean, but only under the condition that Glass goes too and that the next coach has to be an Indiana guy. I can't emphasize enough: that is a rumor and completely unsubstantiated. It kind of has a ring of truth to it as far as what kind of conditions the money would come with, but it could be BS. If Glass went to donors and said Crean can't get it done, he could easily raise the money for a buyout. He would also have the money to pay any coach in America if he went to people and said that is who would get it done. Obviously his neck would be on the line, but this is IU. If you make the move to your Coach (Crean was not his), then you live and die with them. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Any room left on the train...? Toot your little horn and leave the station. All this talk about firing coach from the "IU faithful" is absolute garbage and does nothing to help the current situation. Does it make you feel better to post about firing the coach? Do you think coach likes losing? Do you think the players like losing? There is something obviously going on in the locker room that needs to be fixed. Leaders need to emerge and the team needs to gel. Criticize the coach, criticize the effort put forward by the players, stop being dumb by calling for the coach to be fired. Woodsonshump 1 Quote
Hwy 1 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I don't think this guy is on the train: Dick Vitale @DickieV 2h Hope ppl realize what IU lost from last yr @TomCrean will get the last laugh he knows how to win - Just watch! Quote
mdn82 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I don't think this guy is on the train: Lol, I am indifferent on Tom Crean, but Vitale hasn't known which train he was on since Bill Clinton was a cigar connoisseur. Rayl and HoosierReb01 2 Quote

Hwy 1 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 It's ok Charlie. I was just posting a different viewpoint from someone who has made his living from basketball since at least 1959. He might know what he's talking about even though I do find him extremely annoying. Besides, I'm not going to take anything you say to heart either. Pretty sure Dickie won't either. mdn82 and EvilleAngler 2 Quote

Uh, that line just frustrates me. I guess I wouldn't be too upset with Crews or maybe Chaney getting the job. But the only guy who has that Indiana tie that I would be happy about would be Dane Fife. To me it seems like a number of people want Alford, and I really just don't see that working out at all, I think that is just asking for everything to go wrong. I haven't ever been impressed by Steve as a coach, and I just don't think it would work out Quote

Crews wasn't even going to take the St. Louis job for a while because he didn't want all the road time recruiting. Cheaney has never been a head coach, and has done very little coaching at all. Fife needs more seasoning before he's ready to be a head coach at a IU class school. I couldn't name one former IU player I would want in the job right now. KingPG21 1 Quote

And yeah that is what scares the heck out of me with Alford. I think the boosters would get behind him, and that should play a role. bronkonagurski Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Anytime I read the "Indiana guy" line I just think back to the fact that the most successful coach in our history was not an Indiana guy. We hired a freaking Ohio guy with a degree from that detestable Ohio State University and well, he turned out okay. mdn82, LIHoosier, eljefe6 and 3 others 6 Quote

"Hey I didn't hire this guy but I gave him a huge extension with an increased buyout, oops my bad. Please help me pay for my mistake!" If the donors get fired up enough to pay Crean's buyout, don't you think they might want Glass gone too? Which he has been a great AD overall for IU and I do not want him gone. But he has definitely tied his wagon to Crean's fate by giving him that extension. Hwy 1, LIHoosier and HoosierReb01 3 Quote

Not just in sports, but updating facilities in multiple areas. I think he is one of the top ADs we have had ever already. Plus, I don't think it would be hard to explain the situation we were in, and Crean wasn't his guy. The situation we were in he had to overpay who wanted to be here. Coming from where we were, and the excitement Crean got up front, it is easy to see why he did what he did. I don't think any of the donors would have a problem with Glass. They have seen in other sports and areas what he has done. Quote

I'm not sure how many would care. Quote
