TOM CREAN FIRED

Maybe it's just me and some shallow thinking but I am a nervous wreck over who we hire this time around.  I just feel like IUBB has been slowly slipping into an irreversible state.  My gut keeps saying if we don't make the right hire this time that any luster that IUBB has left may be gone for good.  I can't fathom IUBB not being top notch.  I refuse to let myself think we are there yet.  But if we don't get the right guy this time....I can't help but think it's now or never.

The luster has been long gone. But the benifits of Indiana will always be there. Money, support, facilities, recruiting hot bed. Thats enough to land a quality coach.

Im not worried about the head coach, as I am with just getting rid of Crean. I think he is gone but Im being cautiously optimistic.  Once he is gone, Ill worry about who the new coach will be.

For what it is worth Crean may actually get a pay raise from there. I would have to think if Mizzou is willing to drop 3 mill on Crean we can offer 7 or 8 to Billy D for 5 years. He would 10 million more just this contract. Throw in incentives of a title of 500,000 and B1G title gets him a cool 250,00 grand each time. Make it easy for him to leave us. He ain't switching 3 jobs in a decade we could put the clamps on him next contract.

For those thinking that BDs people could have said no over the phone and thus no need for a meeting consider this. Maybe they gave their timing preferences on an earlier call but Glass wanting to put the full court press on set up an in person meeting to discuss our view of the timing issue.

A lot of times I get a no during a phone meeting but can get close to a yes when I have a chance to sit down with a client. This is the same, a face to face meeting may have been that attempt.

Lastly 708 did not say Billy said no but that he was a no go. Very easily could be that his people could not meet our timing desires and we are moving on.

I specifically remember when Tony Bennett turned us down in 2008...

Did Sean Miller turn us down too? Or did we ever officially reach out? Just trying to remember...

Depends how many years he could extend a contract with another school, but likely, yes.

Another way of looking at it? Power 5 conference basketball coaches are so stinking wealthy that they and their ancestors are pretty much set for the long run no matter where they are.

How many deflections have we got? Call out screen's. Oh just go ahead and finish the half shooting nothing but 3's. Oh almost forgot TB cry to the refs some more you'll get to the foul line.

Game day is tomorrow. If there hasn't been any news yet, nothing will break until we lose.

Then the NIT comes into play...IUBB has already said they would accept an invitation to the NIT if offered....

Basically, we could be waiting a couple of more weeks before news breaks.
