How many coaches win one season and lose the next, just to win again, and then lay a dud the next with a more talented team? Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Pretty sure the people behind Crimson Quarry are known Crean fans. I wouldn't read much into that Yeah they literally defend him through everything. I have them on twitter and they are getting on my last nerve honestly. I have never seen a bad word about Crean by them. DO NOT READ INTO ANYTHING THEY WRITE!! Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app hsrtxp, Hoosierfan2017 and VO5 3 Quote

Their content has been laughable this season, especially since Big 10 play started. There's nothing unprecedented about firing a guy who has finished in the top 4 in his conference 2/9 years, and who has finished in the bottom half of the conference more often than he has the top half. He's heading into his 3rd rebuild in less than a decade. I would argue that it would be more unprecedented for a blue blood program to keep a coach that has been as mediocre as Crean has been. Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 He made a tweet saying no coach has been fired the year after a title in power 5 and I said yeah and not many guys follow it up with 2nd to last in that conference the following year. Also noted he hasnt finished better than 5th any other year and has been blown out every Sweet 16 he has been apart of here. His response was I would take the titles anyday and I said than it sounds like your okay with inconsistency. Argument will be over when I ask him if were a blue blood like he says what other blue blood would keep the coach specially without a top 10 recruiting class coming in. There is no hope. Twice. We're 13-22 in the conference the two years after Big 10 championships. Idk how they can look past the inconsistencies and act like they don't matter. I don't want a coach that makes us relevant only 1 out of every 3-4 years. thebigweave, 8bucks, Trish and 2 others 5 Quote

I don't want a coach that makes us relevant only 1 out of every 3-4 years. Boom!! And injuries I just shut him up with this, Duke has been without Amille, Allen and Giles at times, UNC without Pinson and now Kenny Williams, U of L without Snider, MSU without Schilling, Carter and now Harris, Nova has played without Booth and Reynolds and another kid, Creighton without Watson, Zona without Trier, Oregon without Brooks and I think I added a team or two more lol. Point is injuries happen to a lot of teams not just IU. Using that excuse is pathetic honestly. MSU loses 3 upper classmen and has played a lot of young kids yet they are the hottest team outside of Minny in the B1G. It is coaches jobs to build teams around injuries. Every year Crean loses someone and you have to wonder if that isnt on our staff to begin with. He knows JBJ injury history along with Juwan and RoJo and he continues to use the last few spots on projects knowing we need every body we can get at some point. Michigan lost Walton and Lavert last year and wasn't even this bad. How is that excuse even valid to people that know anything about sports. If injuries gave coaches passes than there would hardly ever be more than 5-10 coaches fired a year if that. I just don't get the hate for Marshall and want to understand why, when he has been as successful if not more successful than other names mentioned. And don't get me wrong, I respect that that it is your opinion. I mean after all if no one had opinions this would be a boring world. Opinions though are formed based on something and I just ask that every one keep their opinions open and watch these guys coach and see if that's what you want to see at IU. If it is great and say that's why. We may not always agree on the style of play and that's fine. But if your unsure why, then give them another chance to form that opinion. Just like when I watched Shaka at VCU, I knew I didn't want him because his success is Gimmick related. I watched Archie and his teams style of play reminds me of Crean with defense and I don't prefer that style. He runs the stupid weave/ dribble drive crap that Crean runs which I hate. I would still take him over Crean based on the defense alone, but again not over other names. There is more risk and not sure there is more reward over the other names. I have watched Marshall and I do like his teams style of play. Combine that with his history and stats and that's where I'm at. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Marshall's style of play is fun to watch. They play D as well as any in the country and he can flat out coach. If not for crap calls 3 years ago vs UK, they would have likely been riding to the Final Four again, but instead they played the NCAA championship game in the 2nd round. And he does it with 2nd & 3rd tier players. I get the youth idea others mention too about Archie, but I don't care about 10-15 years out of him if it translates to Crean 2.0. One mentioned Archie would be as good as his brother Sean. Where's that guarantee at? He might flame out and suck at IU too. We'd all be ecstatic over Donovan or Stevens. After that, it's a crap shoot. Heck Donovan or Stevens either one could land at IU and never make a FF. I'd agree they'd both have better chances having been there before, but when it comes right down to it getting to a FF is about talent, matchups, and coaching. Some times coaching wins out (Stevens). Some times better talent wins out (In Cal's case). Some times it's all about matchups (the 2002 IU run helped that Duke was the main stud team we faced and was very talented). Others it's a combination of all 3. Only 4 do it every year. End of the day, I want a coach who can pull a consistent 1st,2nd,3rd place finish every single year. If they can do that, they'll compete for FF's and NCAA titles. Crean couldn't coach a 5th grade team to victory in the 3rd grade league consistently.
