IUHAHN81 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Alright alright, I'll take the job. I can certainty at least run a Crean offense. Criss cross the baseline and run a 3 man weave up top. I'll even be a little more demanding of energy on the defensive end. I'll get ahold of Glass and let him know I'll take it. Thread over guys! Sorry. WayneFleekHoosier Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 FWIW. Mile also said both sides need to find what they are looking for in order for things to work out. That is a lot of IFs. I am hopeful both sides can be made happy. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners ALASKA HOOSIER and 8bucks 2 Quote

I'm sure Glass has already met with Crean to talk about what direction the program is going in. One would hope so, given the schizophrenic run CTC's teams have been on for the past 9 (OK, the past 6) years. Publicly Glass has repeatedly said that Tom's the guy... but even Crean's mother has to see the situation for what it is. As far as who... I doubt either Stevens or Donovan would be interested. If they are, great... but I really like Bennett, and see him as the attainable #1 option. After that, Marshall and Archie. From there, it's a crapshoot, IMO. IU caught lighting in a bottle with RMK, and have failed pretty miserably since. Maybe we're due and the basketball gods will smile on us again. ALASKA HOOSIER and GloryDays 2 Quote

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using BtownBanners mobile app He's been coaching just as long as Crean and his post season record isn't much different, aside from his Final Four (which is admittedly more recent than Crean's was when he was hired) he's just got one Sweet 16 appearance; although the tourney can be a crap shoot. His success has been in smaller conferences too. I think he's an upgrade without a doubt, in the regular season he's won consistently everywhere. I'd just put him as more of a solid double. Quote

If we have Greg, I'm turning into a Duke fan or something. Hiring Greg is a lateral move. Edit: As much as I want Crean gone, I believe the smart thing to do would be to give him one more year so we can see what coaching options are available. I have the vibe that theres not much available If Celtics cant contend for a championship next year while adding a top 3 pick, Gordon Hayward, and role players.... then just maybe....just maybe will we have a chance. Honestly though, I think we all know he will be back here next year. Quote

Tournament success at a lower school doesnt show yoi can coach at a power 5 school. Look at Groce and the plethora of other coaches who made 1 run and then fet fored from bigger jobs. The thing with Marshall is he has made a final four and Sweet 16 as a midmajor but he absolutely dominates his conference filled with similar talent to him. He just gets beat in a dance. Hardly a knock on him. 18 years as a coach and 18 conference titles/conference tournament titles. Only finished outsode the top 2 in his conference a few times as well. Thats a dominating resume. Multiple top 20 defenses and effficient offensive system as well. Guy is a home run. Happydaze and Josh 2 Quote

How superficial, shallow does one have to be to use that as a strike? Second, go look at their resumes. 18 years of championships compared to a couple. Not even close. Third, they run totally different systems. Marshall coaches championship level defense, while at a midmajor. He also has efficient offenses. Crean only coaches offense. I like him because I like the style he plays, he passes the eye test in every game I have watched them play and he constantly is getting the most out of his teams. Personally, I think you put a guy like that in a major program with major talent and he excels big time. He is still my number one choice after the dream candidates. One could argue that with the talent typically available at the mid-major level, he's done very well... and moving to a top school in a top conference, he'd be able to draw the talent commensurate with that level of school/opportunity. My point is simply this: if Marshall has competed as well as well as he has, as the coach of a mid-major, would he not be competitive in the B1G, given the talent and opportunities that IU would afford him? My only reservation is why none of the other schools in the big 5 conferences have given him a look. Quote
