TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity, what other schools currently want their head coach gone as bad as IU fans do right now?

A follow up question, out of all the other schools looking to fire the HC, what are their message boards like? 395 pages and 8,000 comments?

Why does the media sugar coat "the fans COULD turn on him". smh.

A real blue blood wouldn't have let it get this far. We aren't a blue blood anymore and if we wanna get back to that we have to settling for mediocrity

All of this is so very depressing. I can't stand the fact that we are in a spot to want a coach fired.

To be honest. I think he would be a better fit elsewhere and would like him to resign. End it on a mutual agreement... But since I doubt he's capable of that, then I have to want him fired. So it sucks I have to want someone to be fired at their job.

Dang.  This thread has the staying power of "The Dark Side of the Moon" album.  I hope it will be rendered obsolete - the sooner the better.

The lunatic is on the bench

Forgetting plays and defenses to match
Gotta keep the flash cards on the lap

I have doubts the other blue bloods would've hired him in the first place.  He really only had the one year at Marquette, aside from that he never got past the second round if he made the tournament at all considering he missed almost half the time.

True. I've wondered how far down our list he was

I think he was second, but those weren't normal times either.

Generally I agree with your post.  I've said multiple times that for us to get back we have to maintain blue blood expectations, if we lower the bar once we will always find an excuse to do it again.  I know people want stability, no one wants us to cycle through coaches every couple years, but stability for the sake of stability does nothing; a coach is at a program for 20 or 30 years because he met or exceeded their expectations, not the other way around.  Crean's been here almost 10, he's had time to show what he's capable of.

I literally cannot remember a time (obviously other than Sampson) where I've thought to myself in this kinda dumbfounded way, "what the hell is going on?!"  I mean laughing at our games, expecting to lose etc.  And to think we have no player savior coming in next yr on top of it if Crean stays.  I'm sitting here like, WOW!

At the end of Knights era when we made the tournament I expected we would get bounced early and we did. When Pepperdine was destroying us by 20 all I could do is laugh at the TV

I've tried my best to keep a spreadsheet with all of the offers we extend and at this point, I don't have a single '19 offer on my spreadhsheet (I have 14 offers out for '18).  Is my '19 info correct PAP and CCG?  If it is, is it telling us anything about how CTC sees his future?

He'd still be recruiting them for his next gig.

He is far to arrogant to resign.

I disagree for the simple fact that all that's needed to be considered a blue blood once again is a great coach. We've been set back decades due to Knight, the admin, and Sampson. As bad as things seem now, we are in a MUCH better state than when the last 3 coaches were hired. It's not even close really. I'm in the camp that thinks our next coach is going to be a big splash. Maybe that's being overly optimistic...I'm really trying to be objective and measure the climate around our program. The case of "no coach is going to want to come in with the pressure of our fanbase" is nonsense to me and we have plenty of cases which prove that to be incorrect. We now have a completely updated Assembly Hall, a state of the art practice facility in cook hall, B1G money pouring in to pay what we've not been willing to in years past, and no dark clouds hovering over the program. Crean needs to go but he needs to be sent off showered in praise and thanks. He's not the guy but he got us back to the point where we are a destination job once again. My opinion of course.........Bold Prediction: Fred Hoiberg to Illinois and Billy Donovan to Indiana.

Hope you are wrong on Hoiberg. Got a feeling he would come to Indiana and recruit well.
