TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Yep I watched Archer with the fiancée rather than watch the game. I knew either I'd see a close game and id be pissed or I'd see a thumping and they would just be doing their thing. There's no excitement because there's no hope of anything special. Crean can't win 3 straight on a nuetral court let alone 6 straight.

That eliminates a conference tourney and the NC.

Please just throw money at Brad Stevens

Exactly. Its like the guy bipolar or something. He can on occasion look masterful ( see UM game) and then the next game look like its his first day coaching. That is why we have never had success under Crean in a tourney setting and probably never will.

It says a lot that even coming off a good win at Michigan and being 9-1 in the Big Ten that for the most part the fan base is incredibly nervous about a game vs. PSU and the rest of the season. If we had an elite type coach (e.g. Tom Izzo), we would be far less worried game in and game out and the team would very likely take care of business in such a game. Sure, a lot of very good teams and coaches lose games they shouldn't, but the IU fan base almost seems to expect it as a regular event.

I still believe that IU is the best job in the Big Ten. That said, is Crean living up to that expectation? My overall opinion is that he is not. There have been some incredibly fun games to watch with him as our head coach and yes, what he did bringing the program from essentially nothing to the #1 team in the country is nothing to shake a stick at. But one team or season or win can't be the measuring stick for IU basketball.

I will continue to root for IU to do well because I feel it is my obligation to the players to do so but Crean isn't living up the expectations of being head coach at IU and barring a deep tourney run this year, should be shown the door. I think he is a nice guy and a decent basketball coach and damn good recruiter but isn't up to snuff for this stage and the expectations that come with it.

A buddy of mine that went to Illinois never understands why us IU fans get so down or negative about things. He says, "you're 19-4 and 9-1 in the Big Ten, enjoy it" but for all of us that follow IUBB closely and especially Crean's tenure, we know that disappointment always looms. We can't really enjoy the successes because we know that inevitably we will be let down and left shaking our heads at the end of the season. It's what we become used to the past 4-5 years.

We need our next elite coach. Stevens would be it but the Celtics are 3rd in the East and it would be hard for me to believe he would actually leave one of the most historic basketball franchises in the world. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, though.

I gotta laugh at people wanting Stevens ! What did he win in collage ? Nothing ! At least go after somebody that has won a National Championship !!!

Question for you Iceman, did you mean college? Because Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts

Uh, Stevens went to two straight national title games with Butler's resources and the guy can flat out coach basketball.  A coach of his caliber with the resources of IU is a great combination for IU fans, and a bad one for everyone else.  He's also the perfect fit here and not doing everything possible to get him home should be a fireable offense in and of itself.

If top programs only went after people that won championships. Then Calipari, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, none would have the jobs they have and lead there top programs to national titles.

Great idea.  How about:

Larry Brown; oops, little problem with the NCAA at multiple stops.

Roy Williams; if you don't care about actual classroom work.

Jim Boeheim; wasn't he suspended earlier this season?

Rick Pitino; bring on the hookers.
John Calipari; need I say anymore?

Jim Calhoun; only left a few problems at UConn

Coach K; his years are dwindling

Billy Donovan; if you think you can pry him away from the NBA

Izzo; ditto on Coach K.

Bob Knight; might be the only way to ever get him back to Bloomington.

Golly gee, doesn't look like a whole of available candidates to me.

Hey we could go after Kevin Ollie!

Well we should have kept Mike Davis since he went to a national championship game . I would rather see an alum coach , CC, DF or SA ! Guys that are true HOOSIERS !! I just don't think it's that bad to be contending for a Big Ten title right now !

Well, a team recruited by one of the best coaches the game has ever seen that got hot at the right time carried him to a national title game.

Cheaney, not even close to ready.  Fife, not ready.  Alford, may actually be worse than we've currently got.  Frankly, none of our alums in coaching are desirable; they're either not ready or not good enough.  Stevens grew up an IU fan, idolizing IU and Bob Knight, and was in the stands when RMK threw the chair (and thought it was awesome); he's as close to a true Hoosier as it gets without being an alum.

Sure, we're contending right now but Crean's teams fade in late February practically every season.

I am also tired of all the true hoosier fan bs. Just cause we disagree does not mean that one person is more of a fan in the other. Just means that one of us believes that Crean might be the answer and the other one believes that he is not.
