Time will tell, but I am pretty confident DeVries will not be a failure. I don’t know how well we’ll be competing in the B1G over the next couple of seasons but I see a guy with a wealth of experience, running a modern offense, already hitting recruiting well with a very solid recruiting assistant staff, what so far looks to be team building chemistry with players who share the ball, and a guy who is both pretty hardcore and demanding by all accounts in practice and engaging publicly. I like what we’re seeing so far, jaded as we are from moronic Mike and catatonic CAM.

Playing a professional team in a scrimmage with FIBA rules on a trip to Puerto Rico where they're playing volleyball and fishing and what not during the day, no scouting. It's August. Not worried. Curious to hear how this team responds to adversity - what's the body language like when you're getting your butt kicked? How do we show up for the next game against them? This trip was always about the staff getting insight to prepare for the actual season, not the W-L record.

I think playing a team that puts up a lot of resistance is better than playing only cupcakes during a summer tour. Better to face some adversity now while you're building a brand new team.

Halftime 48-35 so we did hold our own in the 2nd Q. I think Conerway is our leading scorer with 8. 4-16 on 3s Outrebounded 26-18.

After the rough 1st quarter, we’ve basically played them even on the 2nd. Edit: down by 13 at the half so we were +3 in Q2.

Also interesting to see what, if any, half time adjustments the staff make as well as what their game plan will be on Monday.

Goodman definitely said it’s a down class and I’m not sure I’m buying that take. Sure, I can get behind that there might not be any “generational talent.” But to dub a class “down“ without seeing how players develop is a bit of a stretch. So many hyper-successful college basketball teams have been built without generational talent recruits. Talented recruits? Absolutely needed; but not necessarily the super high-end recruits that make up an up or down class.

I’ve been the same. Think it’s 25 years of futility mixed with not knowing anyone coming back. That’s not a knock against CDD but just the state of things. But I’ll reads the recaps tomorrow morning. And when Nov rolls around I’ll be excited to see what these guys can do. Doubt I can stay interested in another failure very long, though.

This off season I've had so little interest in IU basketball. I watched uninspired as we built a staff and team. I wonder if the excitement is gone. But today I'm hoping for a sketchy Serbian stream of the game. I'd even pay per view it. Sooo...maybe the excitement is still alive?

Don't have to like her, but if you've seen what they're doing to her in the league it's far, far from normal. It's routine hitting, elbowing, shoving, throwing her to the floor, etc. That's not a big girl pants issue, it's pathetic and ridiculous, but frankly, she's been taking it and playing through it, she hasn't been whining.

Osterman- On the evidence we've seen so far, Bailey has the ability to switch on an assertiveness with the ball that lets him play smaller than his 6-10 frame, with good handles and guard skills. When he gets into his go-to moves he's tough to stop, and he has a good feel for game pace. More of him looking comfortable like this is better for Indiana.

Will the committee consider this a Q1 or a Q2 loss?

Or we’re undersized and fouling in the paint as a result. The style complete 180 is going to take some getting used to; when you’re undersized and play five out three-point shots will need to go in.

Osterman - Indiana doesn't have the size to contend with Mega at a couple key spots, and it's showing. We don't have live stats but Reed Bailey has at least one foul, which is obviously part of the problem. At the other end, good looks aren't going down, so Mega's getting some breathing room. DeVries was pretty vocal in the timeout huddle. Clear he expects more than this.

Another question altogether I’ve been pondering. Supposedly 2026 is a down class. We seem to be going hard after top freshman. Looking to spend our money there and early. Very curious to see how this works out. Let’s say, we add 3 of our targets in addition to Moody which seems like a realistic possibility, I wonder if that projects as a great team. I don’t know. Gotta start somewhere and if we can get top talent, I want to get it. Maybe save some money for year 2 Mullins to play with Sisley. lol. I think we have 6 to replace? 1 spot filled already? Could easily see a couple transfers. Spots won’t be in question. more to the thought of building through freshman and will it work and will it work early?

UTRGV may not even qualify as a dot on the basketball map but it's not a bad area to spend a year or two for a young guy and DOBO is a nice promotion.
