Some people internalized the Woody era more than they realized. Woodys main thing was blocking shots at the rim at all costs. For as bad as people wanted him gone, it’s funny to hear people fret about the same things he would have. Of course your analysis is correct. We can find tons of examples (our rivals to the north last year being a prime one). But it’ll take time for people to finally free themselves of the old ways.5 points -

Adam Finkelstein - Najai Hines was absolutely dominant yesterday at the Peach Jam and with college coaches arriving today there is increased speculation that he could return to his original class of 2025. Memo to DDV: We do have a scholly available.3 points -
"Mendoza threw for 3,004 yards and 16 touchdowns with six interceptions and blends a strong arm with plus mobility for his size. He can stand and deliver in the pocket with ease and is extremely accurate -- his 5.1% off-target percentage last season was the best in the FBS."3 points

Two more things since I posted the last comment before I finished the last twenty mins or so: 1) He does the hilarious coach thing where he pretends not to know what something is. In this case, it is “a coaches ceiling“. I don’t even know what that is, he says. Then five minutes later, he perfectly describes what he considers a coach’s ceiling when talking about a couple big 10 coaches. In this case, it was Buzz Williams and McCollum. Wtf dude???? 2) I argued with a couple posters this spring about how money will be allocated more like the pros where two or three players get the majority of your salary. Snow pretty much says that’s how it will be going forward. No more giving 8 players $1mil each. Top 2 or 3 guys will be getting 50% (or more, imo) of your salary pool.1 point -

That was a pretty good listen. I don’t disagree with much of anything he said. I would quibble with him saying Lville brought in all winners and we’re not. Devries is a winner. So is Connerroy. Enright was under CDD. One of our two centers played real mins for the national champs. I assume it was a shot at Wilkerson or Bailey but I dunno.1 point -

2025-2026 IU Roster
thebigweave reacted to hoosierbgh for a topic
Rim protection, at least in the form of tall guys blocking shots, often looks far better to us fans than it provides actual value to the team. Best case scenario is that the team grossly overpays for a skilled big that is talented at blocking shots. Worst case scenario is that a team grossly overpays for big that is constantly out of position, giving up rebounds and easy buckets while chasing after blocked shots. IF, this team can play good perimeter defense, at least marginally competent post defense, and rebound, then they will be fine. The rebounding worries me the most.1 point -

Its excellent. I’m listening at lunch. He clearly says our roster isn’t as good as Kentucky or Louisville last season so expecting us to have the seasons they had wouldn’t be fair. Shares a lot of the concerns I’ve been discussing this summer. Also really complements DeVries as a coach. Said he HATED someone on the IU staff from the last regime but wouldn’t name names. Not Woodson. Thought that was interesting. My guess is YA but that’s just an blind guess.1 point -
2025-2026 IU Roster
choosierred1 reacted to Old Friend for a topic
We have everything a team truly needs to be successful. We have experience. We have ball handlers. We have willing defenders. We have speed. We have shooters. We don't yet know about culture, leadership, and we know we're not big, I'll take my chances with experienced kids who know how to play and who are tough. I believe we have THAT, too. What is an "unheralded roster?" That makes no sense to me. We have had plenty of "heralded" players and that hasn't worked out very well. DeVries has been our coach for...what, 4 months? And "the fit" is already being discussed? The brand of IU basketball is top 3 in the country. What are you talking about? In terms of revenue it is behind only Kentucky and Louisville. Indiana is a sleeping giant and I have gone over time and again how the University intentionally made it dormant and is responsible for self-inflicted wounds. Culture is not built or re-built in 4 months and referring to our brand as "bad," with all due respect is grossly out of touch. We do not need and I am not interested in building a "heralded" roster because we spent the most money on players who are HERE for the money, don't care about Indiana, and have no idea how to play the game or play together. You HAVE been watching for the last several years, right?? You want MORE of that bullsh*t?? We finally have a coach doing things right.....pragmatically and with a plan, and you're envious of others?? This makes no sense to me. What higher hopes did you have? You want Mbako back? Reneau? Ballo? Guys who come for "their bag?" You're envious of Purdue's roster? That's a 20+ year culture and a coach who recruits SPECIFICLALLY to be "unheralded" for the most part. You think our football roster a year ago was "heralded?" No. But the pieces fit and everybody pulled in the same direction. There were no individuals. That's how you build a winner and that's what's happening. DeVries is recruiting to HIS "fit" Not to win an off season popularity contest. I LOVE what he's doing and it's about damned time. I promise..our brand is and will be just fine.1 point -

Per Rothstein, Greg McDermott says he’s going to coach 2-3 more years before handing it off to Alan Huss. I assumed when they made that move with Huss McDermott was doing 1 more year. 3 years would be a pretty long apprenticeship.1 point

This will get Coach Cig to leave for greener pastures. Believe me, it will. Especially if he was promised this kind of poop wouldn't happen to him. As an IUFB first and IUBB second fan, it irks me a little bit that this is something Coach Cig is facing. He's the best thing the IU athletic department has had since RMK and the toxic fanbase/donors is going to screw this up because they would rather hire a new basketball coach every time they lose a game. Dolson needs to get his sh!t together and understand football should be the priority if we want to survive this wild wild west known as NIL.1 point
