Pagoda Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 1) Burning it down on the way out. Wow. Per On3: BREAKING: Lane Kiffin has lined up most of his offensive staff to join him at LSU, @clowfb reports. He's told them if they’re not on the plane to Baton Rouge today, they won’t have a spot on staff The Tigers have a press conference scheduled for Monday to officially introduce Lane Kiffin as its next head coach. 2) Anyone know what Penn State is up to? Penn State was the only team all year to outscore us in a half. They ran with OSU for a half at OSU and they barely lost at Iowa. Not saying he’s the answer but I don’t know that their is a definitive better option out there for them BannerVille 1 Quote

Key differences: 1) Kiffin won at Ole Miss at an unprecedented level for the school 2) Ole Miss would have done anything to keep him 3) At the end, Woody hated IU fans who saw the writing on the wall, and essentially expected success — and vice versa. His departure was far from graceful. Ole Miss fans might end up hating Lane for leaving, but not for coaching incompetence. Of course, the drama Kiffin has created at the end, quitting on a team going to the CFP, publicly dragging his decision out for weeks, etc. FAR outweighs Woody disappearing, failing to doing press obligations, and generally being bitter. Similarities: Both narcissistic drama queens who failed to appreciate the sacrifices made ($$$, emotional, personal commitments from players, etc.) by institutions and their fans to grace them with key position and multiples of generational wealth. I hated Woodson more than about anyone, but it was only a fraction of how I would’ve felt if Woodson had left for another job and intentionally tanked IU’s best season in program history in the process. How can LSU feel good about this hire watching what Lans is willing to do to his old team on the way out? BannerVille 1 Quote

Not saying he’s the answer but I don’t know that their is a definitive better option out there for them I could see keeping Smith around for another year given his recent success (and also he is just a good dude - if you haven't done so, watch his media engagements), my biggest watch-out would be roster construction and NIL support. Elite programs can handle a bad cycle recruiting HS & portal, but two years in-a-row will be a tough sled for the next ball coach. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Pete Thamel - Michigan State plans to fire coach Jonathan Smith today. He went 1-8 in the Big Ten this season and his overall record in two seasons was 9-15. He's set to be owed $33 million. LIHoosier and Pagoda 2 Quote

Kiffin is probably a match made in heaven for them. Hopefully he doesn’t have great success but the likelihood he does will be high. Quote

Hate to see anyone lose their job, BUT there are a number of Midwest high 3*/4* types in the ‘27 class that Indiana is fighting for that also have Sparty in their consideration set. I also expect Cig and Crew to monitor who pops into the portal from East Lansing. Smith’s team wasn’t untalented, and we know from the past 2 years that this staff is not afraid to add talent from an onfield opponent. Home Jersey 1 Quote
