I don’t particularly like him, but I think Franklin will make some fanbase really happy. If I’m Va Tech I make him say no 50 times.

I think he does TV for a year and tries to get back in the $EC with a decent team (not Arkansas).

James Franklin is just going to take a swan dive into his big pile of buyout money and roll around in celebration.

Coaches with a truckload of buyout money just lose every game and retire Lol.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Arky pursue him.

I can't believe they canned him.  PSU's AD is an IUFB alumni. Honestly, I'm shocked.

Dude was in the CFP last year. They hosted a game ta boot.

What kind of negative trickle down will hit the program? They're gonna lose current roster and recruits committed. I'm not sure they thought this through.

I imagine that path would work for him. But I doubt seriously that any SEC AD is gonna be down with losing the presser that badly and have to explain to his money people that he’s hiring the guy who got unceremoniously dumped at Penn St. Hova mentioned VA Tech and that strikes as an almost perfect kind of next job. Power conference gig with what is probably now a really desperate fanbase.

I am shocked they pulled the trigger. They just needed to wait 3 months to save 8 million dollars

I imagine that thing got negotiated down notably because I’m guessing at this point Franklin wanted out of this situation as badly as they wanted him out.

They're gonna throw a massive bag at Cig with huge NIL guarantees.

Unfortunately, I think that's just gonna be the case every year.  Last year we compensated his success by restructuring his contract. I'd assume we'll do the same this year. At some point we won't be able to match and it will ultimately be Coach Cig's own personal decision to go elsewhere. Let's hope he absolutely loves the 812 and truly feels at home.

Modern college athletics is you hire a new coach and have them bring their players.  Look at what Cig did

Nobody outside the Big Ten is going to be able to outspend us thanks to that PE deal.

Interestingly, IU turned out to be a platform where he can make the CFP and beat teams like Oregon on the road.  We may not have the most NIL, but our NIL is going up.  And he probably has the ideal alignment and relationship with the President, AD, and other key folks, which does matter quite a bit and is part of the reason why this whole thing is working so well.

When the fit is great and things are going very well, and hopefully it continues to, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to leave it and restart.

Especially when you turn 65 years old this summer. My extremely crimson tinted glasses say why leave for “greener” pastures when you legitimately have a national title contender at Indiana. Maybe he wants the prestige, and this might sound crazy, but I don’t think his ceiling at Penn State would be higher than his ceiling at Indiana is (because I no longer believe he has a ceiling at Indiana).

And also, why leave for program with a starved fanbase that will immediately expect you to win 10 games per year.
