But wouldn’t it be cool if one year we have a season similar to Illinois this year at 9-3 and got to go to the Rose Bowl? How much more would that mean to a team than it will for a UGA/Bama/Tx/OSU, etc. who treat it as a stepping stone to the semifinals? Also, I went to Jacksonville for our trip to the Gator Bowl in 2020, and the week leading up to the game was packed with things for the team and events that celebrated their season. As much as the playoffs are going to mean a lot, missing that bowl game experience for teams who don’t host the game is a loss. It’s just going to feel like a road game at some point even if it’s a big time game obviously. I think it would be cool. Just because a team misses the playoffs doesn't mean it was a bad season. This way the next 12 teams get to play in a very good bowl. Even in the CFP era I still enjoyed watching NY6 bowls evern tho some players sat out. Unless IU is ever playing in them I'll probably never watch any of the other bowl games. Just like I have zero interest in the NIT.. Basically it would be 1) College Football playoff; 2) NY6 Bowls; 3) Any other bowls. Will the Rose Bowl be the semifinal every year? I can't see them ever moving it away from January 1st at 5:00... (I don't think so but wondered what permutations I may have missed that would result in something like that.) (2) What are the chances that IU will not play either Texas or Georgia? (If so, who else could they play?) I can't see them playing Georgia as they will either move up or down. I don't see a home game unless Penn State and Georgia lose in a blowout fashion. Might need SMU to lose just so we jump them in the overall rankings. Quote
DChoosier Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I’m just glad we are safely in. No way we fall out of the playoff with our current position ranked 9th with a 10 seed. As far as Alabama…what a joke. If that exact same team wore IU jerseys with three losses, 2 of them against mediocre/terrible teams with one of the losses only two weeks ago, they would be lucky to be ranked in the 20-25 range. Oh well, we are in and they are in jeopardy if Clemson wins the ACC. go iu bb 1 Quote
8bucks Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 For anyone planning on going, is the best strategy to wait to buy tickets Sunday once the slate is locked? Better to get through IU or a ticketmaster type source? Any reason to think that it wont be very expensive ticket to get? Quote

I'll probably start by seeing if there's a chance of getting 2 out of IU's allotment as a season ticket holder. Beyond that, just going to track prices on resale sites. Prices will be nuts. Quote
Lebowski Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Ok a few things here. First and foremost, IUFB is a lock!!!! We're playing for the hardware baby! I like our chances regardless where we play in the first round. Looking forward to that first round game. Seeding discussing Yes, there needs to be an adjustment about the auto seeding vs rankings. However, I do not agree that the bowls shouldn't be apart of the playoff. I've always been an advocate to have every game in the CFP on a neutral field and basically use all the bowls as the neutral fields. Where the higher seeds get a regional bowl game assigned to them. For example, if Penn State where the higher seed in the first round they would be playing in the Military Bowl in Annapolis, MD. If ND were the higher seed they would be playing in the Gameabove Sports Bowl in Detroit, MI. Dawgs would be playing in the Cricket Celebration Bowl in Atlanta. Put O$U at the Music City Bowl in Nashville. Keep the assigned bowls in the quarterfinals and semifinals. I do understand the logistics of it would be a nightmare and the likelihood of it happening is slim to none. But doing something like this format will make all the money grabs and traditionalist (folks that want to experience a bowl game) happy. And with it only being four games it can be done theoretically. 12 Team CFP Format I have a desire to expand the CFP to at least a 16 team playoff. This format will eliminate first round byes and the Bama over Miami discussion isn't really that much of a problem. If the CFP were set to 16 the discussion would be about 3 loss schools getting in over each other. With the exception of the current Big 12 perception problem. Regardless there will always be schools that get snubbed and that discussion will always occur. Quote

I think it's safer to wait unless you want to purchase tickets to every stadium and then resell the ones you don't need. At this point IU could be playing at one of Notre Dame, Penn State, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Ohio State, or even Oregon is things get crazy this weekend. Quote

Another nice dynamic: We are in contention to play the loser of a conference championship game. That team will have less rest, more injury potential, and more potential for a let down; a conference runner-up is just a little more likely to exhale after their championship big game before they play IU. And among our most likely opponents are Penn St, Georgia, Texas, and Oregon, but only if they lose this week in their extra game. Finally, as I have have heard from a reliable P4 coaching source this week, "We're not satisfied and we're not done." Lebowski 1 Quote

The thing that’s grinding on me a bit, and it shouldn’t because this is as gravy as gravy gets, but it does, is that there is a perfectly reasonable, maybe even likely, outcome here where Penn St and Texas lose this weekend and IU ends up ranked behind 5 2-loss teams and plays a road playoff game. 5 2-loss teams. At some point wins and losses should matter in this piece and 2-loss teams should not be getting home games. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
Lebowski Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Honestly, I'd prefer the "FCS style" playoff. Here is what it would look like if it started tomorrow. Naturalhoosier, taco corp, JerryYeagley23 and 1 other 4 Quote

Don't lose to Kansas and TTU Miami you've lost 2 of 3 Bama.. if you get left out--- don't lose @vandy and @oklahoma Sorry, but 12 is more than enough teams. Redcamaro 1 Quote
