Yeah I believe if they would have put every non-student ticket into the season ticket lot, we’d have had a sold out season in May. I kinda think they got this one right as far as giving more people a shot via mini packs, etc.

Protect College Sports Act - quite an act.   Fix everything, right?   

The Texas Standard has an article today that related in part:  "Congress is trying to bring some stability through the Protect College Sports Act, which would regulate everything from media rights, to conference realignment, to when coaches can switch jobs.  Sponsored by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the bill will soon receive a vote in the U.S. Senate."   John Brice, a college sports insider for USA said: "Congress has had to step in frankly because the leagues, the power conferences, especially across the country — the Big 10, the SEC, the ACC, the Big 12, which has a number of teams in Texas — they all asked for federal intervention because they couldn’t settle on a uniform rules themselves. They also need antitrust protection."

The Senate wants to move forward and their leaders thought that they had 60 votes but wanted more.  More would seem to put pressure on the House to also move swiftly.  It would be a real bipartisanship.  Right?

But wait.  Black colleges and the NAACP are expressing some serious displeasure about the basic negotiations and production of the act.  If you know what the US Supreme Court decided in the "Callais" decision, then you would understand the concern.

"The Congressional Black Caucus strongly opposes the Supreme Court's 6–3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais because it strikes down a majority-Black congressional district, severely weakens Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, and greenlights the dismantling of fair minority-representation maps nationwide." per the League of Women Voters.

Today, Politico says:  "The Congressional Black Caucus on Thursday voiced its opposition to the bipartisan Protect College Sports Act that’s currently under consideration in the Senate, urging Democrats to block the bill until it “reflects the interests of Black athletes.”  Inside Congress Live

The last half century 50 years the old big ten with 10 teams that became really good Wisconsin mainly, MSU, Iowa to a degree, Northwestern to a degree, and in two years IU jumped over all them to the best season in college football history.  And in that two years only loses was were to national champion and runner up before IU went 16-0 and won the National Championship.  It is believable because it is true.

This article talks about the intangible that separates great from good. It's not surprising to read and I fully expect great things from him.

I was upset to see him go but fully understand his decision and hope he succeeds. Regardless, I don't think he'll end up back in Bloomington like most people think. I trust the coaching move to get Hoover but I didn't agree with it. Time will tell how this all pans out. Don't misunderstand me, I think Hoover is going to do great things for IUFB. I just wanted to see Berto get a shot.

Cig said Albero was the one player he hated to lose. But he was also obviously not comfortable turning the offense over to him this year. I was hoping it would work out but I'll defer to Cignetti on all personnel matters. Cig is a savant when it comes to quarterbacks. Given the way he views the position, I wonder if we will ever have a qb developed in house become our starter.

I've wondered the same thing. Makes you kind of think about the current QBs that committed to IUFB in general.

I think we eventually see a home grown QB get the starting reins.  Lots of rumblings of cherry for next year.  Will depend on how he looks in blowouts I suppose. 
 

Also a decent chance we won’t see one till an injury.  Cig does like experience

I thought Alberto would have got his shot, but I didn't think it was this year. I thought the next two years were his to shine. He didn't want to wait, and I understand that. Best of luck to him, and looking at the GT QB coach, I think he's in fine hands. And I agree, I don't think he ends up back in Btown.

Cherry might well end up as IU's starting QB, but I doubt its next year. Anything can happen but being that he's 3rd string at the moment, he may not even get much time in blowouts. I too think that IU will see homegrown QB's under Cignetti, I tend to think it will be guys in their 3rd, 4th or 5th year.

I know a lot of people look at the fact that Cignetti has used transfer QB's for like 9 years straight or something and think that trend will continue, and I think he'll always keep an eye on the portal, but I don't think its automatic. I think the level of QB recruits he's bringing in is heads and tails above what he had to work with when he got to IU, and I'd say he probably felt the need to elevate his QB's at JMU as they transitioned to FBS. We'll see, but I don't know how you continue to recruit quality QB's to IU if they have no shot at being "the guy".

I'm leaning towards the mantra that "good QBs will always want to be coached by this staff", even if they're out of high school. Keeping them on the team might be an issue though. Especially if the staff keeps the trend they've done for nearly a decade. There are zero signs of keeping it in house if that makes sense.
