So long has he keeps his nose clean re: the hazing allegations at NW.

My bad, I was talking about Whittingham.  He is a LDS who hasn't gotten in trouble.  Fitz at MSU?  Maybe some time off gives him a new perspective, but I don't think he is going to put them in the top third of the league, but he could make them respectable

Getting him was more about stabilizing the program for the next 4 to 5 years than anything else.  He will keep the players there, and he has a reputation for not getting in trouble which is what they need right now.  It is all about recruiting though, and time will tell if any of them can get the players they need.

  • Fitzgerald was fired for being the head coach during a team sexual hazing scandal.
  • His last two years at Northwestern he was a combined 2-16 in conference.
  • At Northwestern he had real success for a while, but his recruiting was just okay - when he started winning he bumped to more three star recruits than NW usually got, but it was no revelation.

Overall? IMO it is a lousy hire with significant downside.

Sorry, I was talking about Whittingham at UM and not Fitz.  I put in an edit for clarification.  It's early on a Monday in the Holiday season.  Where is my caffeine?

That is SO different!! :)

Completely agree; Whittingham is all of those nice things you said about him.

I got one am not overly impressed with any of the coaching hires.

All 3 schools of the sexual scandal collective I think will be looking for new coaches within 5 years.

PSU- Will have an easy schedule and may capitalize this next but dude just hasn’t shown the consistency to get where Penn State expects to be.

Michigan-A fine coach but didn’t consistently win enough games to keep UM fans happy. A tough schedule the next two years. Dude could easily be fired after consecutive 9-3 seasons ending with losses to OSU

Michigan State - he had his time but kinda like tom Allen he just couldn’t sustain anything.  Remains to be seen if he can rebuild it. Ironically I think MSU should snag one of the above 2 coaches if they get fired

Considering the state of each school’s football program/overall athletic department, I think they did pretty well.  JMHO.  :)

My nominee for the worst fanbase in CFB. I give you Auburn. You’ve really got to read the replies here. Awesome. They introduced Golesh 3 weeks ago.

On a semi-related note I recall when they beat us in bball a couple years ago we had a deluge of Auburn fans going wild in the comments under every post from the IUBB Official Account.  Like hundreds of comments talking about how they were the real blue bloods and we sucked etc etc.  I can't recall any other fanbase doing that.

So I would concur.  They're a nasty bunch.  Maybe their biggest rival doing so well has affected them.

They are sandwiched between Alabama and LSU in geography and have never been able to get out of Bams's shadow that much.  They have that little brother syndrome of always trying to get attention.
