We are really pushing the this largest alumni base thing.

It’s great, but if I am honest, I am pretty sure most large state schools have somewhat similar sized alumni bases.

I don’t know how they pull the data, but last time I looked into this there actually is a sizable gap from IU/PSU to the 3rd spot. It was something like 100,000 more people. I think Michigan was 3rd.

Hmm.  Our Bloomington campus enrollment has been #10-20 for a very long time.  I wonder if we count satellite campuses or something.  I don’t get how it’s true.

But, I’ll drop this topic, no one wants to see my posts disputing a stat that has IU #1 lol.

Satellites are included. It's 100% a mickey mouse stat.

Appears I kicked the hornet's nest. It was not my intent to diminish anyone's alumni status and I agree that an IU degree is an IU degree.

Same.  I was just wondering if other schools count all their campuses too so it’s an apples to apples comparison.  Nothing to do with one campus being better or worse than another.  If you went to an IU campus you are clearly an IU alumni.

People who went to IU campuses in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, etc., and received IU degrees are certainly IU alumni.

It always irritated me that IU would put a campus in Kokomo and New Albany, but they never did put one in Evansville till the IU Medical Center was put in a few years ago.  I suppose Indiana State opening up ISUE which turned into USI kept that from happening, but I deserved the opportunity to drop out from IU as much as I did from USI! lol  Anyway, someone told me the other day while I was driving for Uber that USI is looking to start a football team.  I will say that it is a rumor, but they just did move up into D1.

Yes, from what I understand, all schools do this, unless there's a football team on the satellite campus. For example, UTSA has it's own team, so Texas doesn't count them. Another example, all UC schools, UCLA, UC Berkley, Davis, etc. etc..

Honestly though, I could be wrong, Texas might count UTSA grads?

It’s great and we do need to get everyone engaged.  But if I am honest, I am pretty sure most large state schools have somewhat similar sized alumni bases.

100% this.

And more importantly? Largest alumni base in NO way equates to wealthiest alumni base. Because people buying t-shirts and watching games with a bowl of Doritos is nice, but billionaires with NIL and facilities love is what really matters.

I remember that rumor back in 1998. I originally planned to attempt to walk on at University of Indianapolis. Then a lot of chatter about USI creating a football team so I stayed home and it never happened.

I transferred to IU and couldn’t get my stuff together. Eventually I finished my degree at IU East. My degree says Indiana University and been a fan since I was a little kid. So I still consider myself an IU alumn.

We're not nuthin! And compared to Mississippi State or Puredoo? Yay us.

But compared to Michigan or Texas? No sir. Just be glad that Harvard doesn't want to be a big time football school; they have more money in their spare change pocket than IU will ever hope to have.

Luckily Texas doesn’t know how to spend their money
