Looks like a Troy clone. Your thoughts?

Sorry, I have been all over the place lately.

I think he has some similarities. I know Creans system cans sorta muddy up the 3/4 spot but evaluating a player coming in I believe it's still applicable. I think McSwain is more of a 4 shaping into a 3. Where TW was coming to play the wing at Indiana and you've seen him bring the ball up the floor in meaningful minutes. I don't think McSwain is there or will be but Crean does like to develop that so who knows what IU fans could see.

He probably shoots similar TW his first two years- which is not very good. The shot is a concern.

Athletically, he seems to be off the charts. It doesn't take a pro scout to see a few videos and come to the conclusion that he is soaring above everyone on those alley oops. Looks to have elite athleticism for the HM level. Troy certainly has that.

Seems to be a good rebounder with 9 a game but have to wonder how much of that is playing against inferior athletes. Trying to imagine what Troy could have averaged at that level. Hard to project, I guess you just judge on what you have.

I don't know much about his defense. No one seems to be talking about it which is worrisome. He had a couple cool blocks but that doesn't do much for me. As it relates to Troy, can't be a ton worse??

I believe his show could be fixed. Unlike Troy, it appears McSwain's form is similar each time he shoots where Troy's form is different every time he shoots.

If McSwain can combine his athleticism with s junkyard dog type mentally, similar to Tate of O$U, I would welcome him. A lot depends on what Troy does though.

JUCO F Freddie McSwain (@Mcswain_swain), who picked up an IU offer this week, says he plans to visit Bloomington April 18-20. #iubb

Should change that visit to the weekend before. Guarantee he would commit if he participated in some Little 500 activities!

So we're basically getting another Troy minus the comparatively good ball handling that Troy has.

Probably pretty difficult to make such a skeptical and broad generalization based off a mixtape of his JUCO games.

It appears that we're getting a kid with some ridiculous hops who has already put on some muscle. Let's see what Crean and the Shot Doctor can do to develop the kid.

If I recall, the same skepticism (I'll call it that and not negativity) was aimed Max and Zeisloft when IU was looking at them. They both turned out to be pretty impactful parts of the team. The kid has some skills. Bring him on and let's see what he can do.

I don't remember much negativity towards Max at all. With regards to Nick we needed a few more bigs when we signed him. There was certainly some negativity with him but that was because we had just signed two "bigs" that did not show much promise in April and Priller.

I would like to see our recruiting kick it up a notch. We had a veteran laden team this year which led us to a BT title but the talent seemed to be lacking in several big games.

We have a team full of 3/4 stars like OG, Morgan and RoJo etc which can be great for team play when upperclassmen but we also need some high end guys. TB looks like he could develop into a big time player, JBj if he can come back from another knee injury(3rd?) and can play better D are close but we need more.

All of our current recruits fall into that RoJo, OG mold I think we still will need some 4/5 star impact level players to advance further.

I'm all for bringing this kid in, but it's okay to not have blind faith, as well.

Most people were pretty spot on about NZ too.

How so?

IIRC most laughed it off as another nail in the coffin.

Ended up being the most efficient offensive player in the country for his two seasons at IU.

Most said he was a good shooter but wasn't good at much else and that we needed a big.

Gotcha.

He definitely developed his game to a level few could have anticipated. Credit to the kid. Hope he stays involved with IU in the future.

It'd be nice if IU could pick and choose who they want to bring in.

People said he would be a huge defensive liability, he was. That he wasn't anything but a shooter, mostly true depending on how much of a leader you thought Z was. He shot it better than most thought he would in general. Also, the only reason he would rate out as super effective offensively is because of a the way three point shooting could tip the scale. He didn't have much offensive diversity really
