DChoosier Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Those that think JB will be better on D next year....Hope you are right but would not bet on it. Since the new NBA/NCAA rule allows players to get evaluated and come back if they do not sign with an agent I am guessing TB, TW and OG will all declare. Hopefully TW is smart enough to do it without signing with an agent. Quote

HoosierAloha Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 It will also help not to have other players not willing or able to defend. TB and Z3 were not defending at a high level early in the season. Yogi had stretches where he was defending but wasn't doing it consistently. OGWan also wasn't getting many minutes either. We had lineups where JBJ, Z3, and Troy were on the floor together. Of the regular rotation players they might have been the three worst defenders at that the. If JBJ is on the floor with RoJo, Hartman, OG, and TB it won't look nearly as bad as it did at the beginning of this season. However, he will probably look like Troy later in the season when the rest of the team was defending at a higher level. 8bucks, JaybobHoosier and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote
HoosierTrav Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Yes he is. You do get paid in the d league He will technically get paid but he will be making peanuts in the D-League. If you start in the D league, ie not sent down from NBA with a guaranteed NBA salary, the top pay scale is a whopping 25k. they have A, B, C Players at pay scales of 25, 19 and 13k. Quote

Last year we had times when Blackman was certainly a poor defender but others had not bought in either. By the end of the year we sometimes had 1 guy out there who was a D liability but only 1 at a time. Next year we may have 2 at times with him and Troy but that can be managed if he at least gives a little more effort there. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
Andrewadams16 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 As good as the team could be, it'll be a very rough year, similar to yogis junior year, with out Tb Sent from my SM-G920P using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Never Daunted Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 What concerns me next year is we will have a backcourt with players that have serious knee problems. --Blackmon and Josh. ROJO is better playing off the ball in my opinion so he should be a solid six man for us. No doubt in my mind that Troy and Bryant are not NBA ready yet. They would most likely get drafted since this draft class is weaker than our non conference schedule , but they are simply not ready. I know this is a touchy subject.. But I wouldn't mind if Priller gave up his scholarship for a grad transfer or Thon Maker to join the team. Nothing against Priller, but I would rather have a player who has Big Ten talent. Landing another Max or Nicky would be nice and add to the depth. Once again, nothing against Priller. Would love to keep him as a walk-on. I doubt he gives up a free ride to school, but it really could help us if he does and we are able to land a big ten caliber player What might bite us in the butt will be the lack of a PG. Curtin Jones could surprise and take over for Yogi.. But I'm not sure about him or Josh running PG. Thomas and Davis down low should be fun to watch. They both offer different skill sets and the ability to stretch the floor. If we have these talented players down in the post, they need to get the ball. Assuming everyone develops a tad bit and stays, this team should be preseason top 15 and just as fun as watching this years team. The identity of this team would be so confusing with Thon. I feel as though we succeeded a lot this year because we eventually found an identity. Granted, Thon is such a game changer and I'd obviously love to have him next year. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Just not sure a "get Thon into the lottery" is what an IU program trying to find identity needs. He is a heck of a talent and could potentially take a very good team to really awesome. However, there seems to be a lot surrounding the young man who want him to get his. If TB and Troy return I feel really good about our front court/win talent and depth. ctown2grhoosier Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 im OK with any of these guys shooting If TW and TB come back I think the starting lineup will be Rojo, JBJ, Troy, OG & Bryant. With Hartman, Morgan, Davis, Newkrik, Cujo, and Green off the bench. Dont see much PT for Gelon or Priller. JaybobHoosier and aaron51 2 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I still see Hartman in the starting lineup. I believe his role will expand a bit next year. Has there been a previous multi year starter who then came off the bench? I know this team might be the deepest in the Crean era but Hartman is that glue guy who can play in a lineup with JBJ, Troy, and to a lesser extent TB. RoJo is a similar player to Hartman but as a guard. OG and CuJo seem like the spark plug kind of players off the bench. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Feathery Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 the biggest leap is usually from freshman year to sophomore year. How much OG, Morgan, and Bryant progress will determine how good this team will be. Walking Boot of Doom and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
Andrewadams16 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 We made huge strides defensively this year, and yes they're a very good team, but what the heck happened vs UNC?! If our defense is anything like that next year were screwed Sent from my SM-G920P using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Andrewadams16 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 But honestly think. Team is way deeper than any team in recent memories, just lacks leadership and will take a step back from being as good of a three point shooting team Sent from my SM-G920P using BtownBanners mobile app Trish 1 Quote

The injury could be a blessing in disguise. May have given him the chance to reevaluate his defensive effort. If he can start playing even average defense, he's a lock for the first round. JBJ is not in a bubble. Not only did he see what happened when the team played good "D" he read about it and heard it a million times on tv and maybe radio. No doubt he also heard the "they are better without him" comments. I hope he comes back and proves everyone wrong. I have seen nothing to make me think he will play good D but hopefully he proves me and others wrong. Crimson and Cream, Bittersince87, ThompsonHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote
Andrewadams16 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Can Rojo be an effective point guard Yes. Great ball handler and shooter, and able to defend well. Not the passer Yogi was, and not as explosive but very capable of being a solid point guard, same with newkirk Sent from my SM-G920P using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER and HoosierAloha 2 Quote
