He's not ready.  Our former players are either not ready (Fife, Cheaney) or just not good coaches (Alford).

I've known the Drew family for over 40 years. I would take Bryce in a heartbeat. In addition to being darn fine basketball coaches, he and his dad are two of the most genuine people I know. I have no idea what happened with Scott.

 

My deductive reasoning skills would say that Scott then takes after his mother.

I have watched them several times. It's hard to gauge how those numbers would stack up playing better competition. 13 of there 19 wins are against teams with a +150 rpi.

I agree, though as a point of order, the adjusted efficiency numbers are relative numbers.  That is, Ken Pom's system believes when playing an average D1 basketball team, Valpo will hold them to .902 points per possession.

 

According to the system, they lack significantly in offense.

i guess watching them lose 4 of 5 games might have left a negative image of Valpo. Granted I didn't watch them play northern Kentucky and uic where they only allowed 45 points I only watch them give up 70 plus to Oregon, Belmont, and wright st

He has won his conference 3 of 4 years. Soon to be 4 of 5 years. Can't expect more than that from a mid major program. Same conference Stevens made his name. You are pet of a tough crowd to please.

I was just noting the purpose of the adjustments is to see how a team fares against an "average" opponent and remove the bias of a weak conference. So, when talking about adjusted stats, saying we don't know how they would fare against other opponents is technically true, but precisely what those stats are designed to overcome.

 

They have only lost once when they held their opponent to fewer than 1 point per possession (Saturday).

 

In interviews, Ken has acknowledged his system is less accurate in the bottom half of the league than the top, so some of Valpos numbers actually could be assisted by the difficultly of calculating the expected score of conference opponent "Illinois Chicago".

 

I guess we will get at least 1 tourney game to see how they fare.

they should have a good test Friday when they play Oakland who took Michigan st to overtime. That game will be on Friday on espnu if you want to check them out. I believe offensive and defensive adjusted efficiency numbers are a good guideline to start and I believe in those numbers I also like to use the "eye test" when reviewing teams productivity. Some might say I have a slight madness when it comes to watching college basketball. I will watch Oakland play wright st if it's the only game on ( they are on espnu right now). having said all this about Valpo and needed to proof it against better competition, from what I've seen in my opinion I think they are a good defensive team but like you said their struggles are on the offensive side of things. If you watched the end of the Oregon game then you would have had to watch it on the pac 12 network because that was the only channel it was on. That might let you separate it from other oregon games

Eye test is definitely important. I'll miss Friday's game too, but since so many people here are watching it, I'll just pay attention to their analysis.  

 

Doesn't narrow it down at all for Oregon games, I watch them all through streaming sites so it's always the same. Maybe I'll find an older game and check them out though.
