Popular Post HoosierAloha Posted January 13, 2018 Popular Post Posted January 13, 2018 Just got home from the game, figured you and the general would be all over it. Dogfight it was, great game! Marian hit big shot after big shot and Riley played like crap for the most part. Damezi had a horrible shooting night. but this team just does not get rattled. DA hit a 3 to tie it up with 40 seconds to go in regulation. Then had a key block and a rebound tip-in in overtime on successive possessions to put Riley in command for good. Cat is a flat out winner.Love hearing this. Among other skills, I really want to see IU get back to the team that scraps, claws, and fights for wins when they're not on their game. Anderson seems like a kid who brings a lot of intangibles. Hopefully, Phinisee and Anderson will be the foundation for CAM's success at IU by playing FOR Indiana. A good season or two can really change the image of a program. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app BGleas, IUsafety, thebigweave and 5 others 8 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE - When asked about Riley’s mindset heading into overtime with its 12-0 record on the line against Marian, Damezi Anderson didn’t mind admitting that the No. 1-ranked (Class 4A) Wildcats were feeling some pressure. But they weren’t about to let it faze them. “We were a little worried,” said Anderson, “but we knew we were going to get the job done. It’s all about toughness and who wants it more.” And in a seesaw affair in which both teams fought for every basket and loose ball, the Wildcats won a few more battles. Riley (13-0) staved off Class 3A Marian (7-2) in overtime, 64-60, behind Anderson’s 27 points, which included four of the team's nine in the extra frame. “Marian came out and played lights out,” said Riley head coach Eric Brand. “My hat’s off to them for how hard they played. We talked about making them make some shots, and they made them. This was a good game for us to see where we’re at and where we want to be.” With one of their key players, Michael Hemingway, struggling with foul trouble and going scoreless in the first half for Marian, Zach Lattimer’s 18 points on 6-of-11 from 3-point range helped the Knights keep Riley within striking distance. Teammate Jaden Ivey chipped in 17 points, including 4-of-5 from deep. Marian went into the fourth quarter with a 41-40 lead, and with Ivey scoring 10 in the period, opened up a five-point advantage, threatening to send a few shockwaves through the state. But hustle plays from Riley’s Shamar Dillard and Rylen Grundy, who added two highlight-reel dunks in the game, kept Marian from pulling off the upset. Dillard had six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Grundy scored four in the frame. “When I see Shamar, Grundy, Jalen (Jennings), and my teammates making big plays, I know we’re all together,” remarked Anderson. “It motivates me to go even harder. When they’re making big plays, I know I have to make big plays.” Neither team could break a 55-55 tie in the final minute of regulation, however, and Anderson’s 3-pointer at the horn missed long, sending the game to overtime. The extra period was all Riley as clutch baskets from Anderson, Dillard and Jennings helped close out the game. While Marian head coach Robb Berger remarked that his team wasn't satisfied with “moral victories,” there were some obvious positives. “I was proud of how we competed,” Berger said. “That’s a good team, a well-coached team, and we went toe-to-toe with them for 36 minutes.” HoosierAloha, gfeltner28 and johnsoniu 3 Quote

Popular Post ccgeneral Posted February 5, 2018 Popular Post Posted February 5, 2018 I thought their numbers were off. Congrats to DA! http://inbasketballsource.com/2014-2015-high-school/2017-2018-high-school/5169-damezi-anderson-south-bend-scorer-leader South Bend Riley's Damezi Anderson became the career scoring leader in South Bend history Thursday. Unofficially, Damezi Anderson has scored 1,773 career points after recording 13 points against Penn Thursday. In the career scoring update, Indiana Basketball Source noted that Anderson had become the South Bend record holder. It wasn't being publicized elsewhere, but 46 Sports is now reporting that Anderson set the record Thursday. Anderson is now 150th on Indiana's career scoring list. There is still a chance for Anderson to get to 2,000 career points. He will likely achieve that milestone if Riley makes a deep run in the state tournament. Anderson signed with Indiana University in November. He has had a tremendous four-year career for South Bend Riley. The Wildcats are 17-0 this season behind Anderson's production. They are one of the favorites in 4A. Class of '66 Old Fart, HoosierHoops1, HoosierAloha and 5 others 8 Quote

Popular Post Stromboli Posted February 5, 2018 Popular Post Posted February 5, 2018 Just jumping on this Damezi hype train. Everytime I watch him play, to me he is a shooting guard. Wing is also accurate, but more on the guard side than the forward side. He sneaks around the perimeter like an assassin, fights to get open. In transition or after an offensive rebound, he sneaks to an open spot behind the line for a catch-and-shoot, rather than body into the paint. I should mention I don't think this is the same as avoiding contact, really more just looking for the next score. Deadly jump shot. Has a good enough handle that he can drive when the opportunity presents itself, go coast to coast. You all heard Dakich railing on Miles Bridges for not being able to dribble more than once under control. Bridges is a small forward, and his game is totally different than what Damezi brings. Damezi is not an above-the-rim type guy, and certainly not a bruiser in the paint. But he can slash his way in for a smooth lay-in. He has all the skills to be an elite SG, plus the length to help him excel on defense. I've been saying all year that our biggest need right now is a SG. What skill would a prototypical SG have that Damezi doesn't have? Having a guy like Damezi fill the SG spot, we've added size at a position you're not typically looking for it. His skills and size help us whether we're playing small-ball or with two bigs and 3 guards. ebridges24, IUsafety, ALASKA HOOSIER and 7 others 10 Quote
