Thomas Bryant and Emmitt Holt cited for illegal alcohol posession

Recommended Posts

I understand that, and its frustrating from our point of view but kicking him off the team is wayy too much IMO. I just cant find it in me to even say that he made a major mistake in the first incident he was present for. Like I said before, this is a non story with a coach other than Crean and the prior issues that Hanner and Devin ran into. Emmitt shouldn't be victim of harsher than normal punishment due to the mistakes of others. Its like we get pleasure from catching them being normal kids and bashing them over the head for it. Just my point of view. I'll never buy the notion that our kids should act like any age other than their own, just bc they wear candy striped pants. I'm all for punishment. All for it. But the punishment has to fit the crime. Thats my opinion. Obviously I feel strongly about it.

In a vacuum this is barely a blip on the radar. But the recent past is a harsh reality and these guys have been given warnings based on that past. I don't know if booting him is the best response, but I was just saying I wouldn't be outraged if it were to happen.

You sparked a thought... As part of Glass' zero tolerance any chance he put IUPD on notice and wanted them to specifically watch for basketball players? Maybe just maybe he sees the problem and this is his way if fixing... Could be interesting depending on what/if any consequences come from this... Or maybe I'm giving him to much respect/credit

I'm not sure it went that far lol.. But, it is entirely possible the excise police knew who the players were before they asked for ID or however it happened.

I really like holt and really think he could have impact this year. I am not sure he will or should even be on the team. I do think given the fact he almost killed a guy last year he should be a better role model for a incoming freshman like bryant than this.

I don't think its fair to say "he almost killed a guy last year". From what I read about the situation, I can't see where he was actually at fault. Yes, he had a beer, but I don't think that makes him automatically at fault. Davis made a really stupid decision.

I agree 100 percent but at the same time alcohol was involved by both party's. I am not saying it was his fault but should have been enough to steer him from being involved with alcohol on any level for a while.

Not really hard to pick these guys out of a crowd. Being as they are a foot taller than everybody else.

We've had some players show up at band parties in the past. And if a basketball player is showing up at a band party, it isn't some tiny get together, it's one of our BIG band parties. Somehow they managed not to get caught at a "people spilling out onto the street causing neighbors to call in noise complaint" party, I don't know how these kids are managing to get themselves caught now... Are they throwing their empty bottles at police cars or something?!

You're asking a 19 and 20 year old this question. Not 30-50 year IU basketball fan.

I mean I'm 21, if I had the opportunity to make my dream become a reality I would give up what i had to in order to do it. They got cited for alcohol, not a big deal. Stuff happens. But in the past 18 months we've had a guy get a DUI, two players try getting into a bar with fake IDs, two guys fail multiple drug tests. We've had an intoxicated player get hit by a car driven by another player. We had the DUI guy and the guy who got hit get caught smoking weed in their dorm room and get kicked off the team. Now we have the driver of the vehicle and a new freshman get cited for alcohol before the fall semester even started. Do these guys love basketball, or do they love the lifestyle it allows them to live? We can sit here and say what they're doing is no big deal but then we'll come right back in a few months when the next incident happens and have the exact same discussion.
