PITT Transfer Josh Newkirk is headed to IU!

Recommended Posts

lets be honest. Who doesn't? Softest D in the nation.

One thing about Newkirk, those boys from Pitt can Defend and NOT shoot.

Yes.

Boys circle the date on their calendar when they play against us. We always have some no-name kid have a career high against us.

Trying to square away scholarship numbers here.

We are full now on current class with Newkirk.

Yogi----Gelon
Max----
Ziesloft-----
Troy?----
Blackmon?----
Bryant?----
Priller?----

So we have 2 more definite openings? 1 very likely opening in Troy. 1 semi likely opening in JB2. 1 maybe opening in TB?

So 2 openings before oversigning??
Also Priller could be a open scholarship too.

I am more concerned about defense than offense. PG sets the tone for defense on a team. It he can guard, than very welcome addition.

Or Blackmon if he doesn't bolt

Unless he absolutely has a horrible season, I think JBJ throws his name into the 2016 draft even if he's a borderline NBA pick and then heads overseas if he's not drafted.  I just have the feeling he never expected to be at IU for more than 2 years and he was optimistic that it might be only for 1 season.

So we could be looking at a roster of...
G- Newkirk
G- RJ
F- OG
F- Holt
C- Bryant
F- Morgan
F- Hartman
G- Gelon
Plus the kids that 247 predicts us to get...
G- Bruce Brown
G- Curtis Jones
G- Vijay Blackmon
F- De'Ron Davis

Let's hope we can get a surprise like Alkins. A class of Gelon, Brown, Jones, Blackmon and Davis would be quite.... underwhelming?

Bruce Brown, Curtis Jones and De'Ron Davis is nowhere close to underwhelming...

What makes the addition all the more important is the extra year. With him sitting out a year he will have plenty of time to heal his knee and improve his jumpshot. Yogi Ferrell will take him under his wing and tutor him on getting others involved and etc. He never will be Yogi but he is the suitable replacement people have been asking for.

It wouldn't be an underwhelming "class". That's what you said, and I disagree wholeheartedly.

I'd say it is if we miss out on so much that we were going so hard after. Especially if we don't get a SF like Stevens or Blackwell.

It isn't that those 3 aren't good. But I don't think it'll help with continuity. And I think we all know Crean can't survive by having a good year or 2 then a down year or two. We need to be in the Top 20 at the least every year.

I don't think Top 20 every year should cut it. There needs to be a solid Final Four shot every 3-5 years. Top 20 means very little.

If the option of that being our class I'd take it right now. The only one of that group I wouldn't be thrilled with is Blackmon.
