(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

Recommended Posts

I remember this kid named Jeff Hedges that was held to 4 points in a game his senior year.

Never heard of him right? That's because he wasn't D1 nor NBA caliber..

Not going to lie, this made me laugh out loud.

Granted, it's not fully fair or accurate but quite funny.

Crean has a way of "creating" D1 players though lately. Priller, April, Stan Robinson (Cough, Cough).

i was surprised vcu and Rhode Island still wanted Stan. That's still highly a couple of recognizable programs. Rhode Island probably would of made the tournament this year if their best player didn't get hurt. Hurley is a good coach

there is potential there. We saw it freshman year. Then switching shooting hands, etc. Guarding centers etc.

Stan was ranked around 50 when he came to IU. I don't think Crean created anything with him.

i knew he was a top 50 recuit coming to iu but never once while he was here did I think he should of been that highly ranked. Maybe a change schools will be good for him. I hope he does well. Rhode Island should be near the top of the a-10 next year

he was ranked near 50 when verbal commitment was made. Dropped to 80-100 range in his year at Findlay Prep. Nigel Goss rose 30-40 spots conversely. His stock was dropping. He can still be a fine player at RI.

I haven't watched Gelon so this is pure speculation on my part, but maybe he is a deadeye shooter provided he's set when he catches the ball and not closely guarded.  Not necessarily double or triple teamed but his defender is playing soft defense.  Maybe not a kid who can necessarily create his own shots but more a catch and shoot player.

And for whatever it's worth, Crown Point is participating in the Noblesville Holiday Tournament and

defeated Avon 90 - 64.  Gelon with 21 points on 7 of 9 from 3 pt. land.  Not sure how far they were into the 4th quarter, but at that point, he had yet to attempt either a 2 pt. shot or a free throw.   Sasha Stefanovic had 12 pts. for Crown Point.

On the Stan Robinson note, I watched him play several games at Findley Prep. I was a little worried then because Nigel Williams Goss was SO MUCH better. I did expect better from Stan though. His Freshman year was about what I was expecting, then he plateaued/declined.

I expected more of him too.

I saw him play once for Findley Prep and it wasn't impressive.  Goss looked great but Stan did absolutely nothing to stand out, he was just another player on the court.  I passed it off as a bad game at the time.

Crown Point lost to Michigan City 58 - 55.  Gelon with 11 points and 1 article gave him 15 rebounds and another 16 rebounds; however, he was only 2 of 12 on his 3's.  Despite a poor shooting night, this is his second game in a row with very good rebounding numbers.
