HoosierAloha Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 good analysis. Part of our fanbase frustrations lately. I find myself frustrated not knowing how much to invest in the new players. I was iffy with NZ not knowing if he would get the opportunity to play two years. I liked Holt's game and intensity but he wasn't around long. I liked what Abell brought to the team but he gone. How much do I put into both OG and JMor staying all 4 years? Maybe it's just me and my problem but there hasn't been much evidence that these players will be around all four years. And seriously, what to do with MSB??? I mean I could see him leaving early to own the NBA, if he wants. Beowulf50, WayneFleekHoosier, MikeRoberts and 4 others 7 Quote
zinch2o Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 After the Warford, Hulls and Elston group we have struggled to get kids to stay four years. Yogi is the only one of his class. Most of Troy's class is gone. I'd like to think we keep RoJo, OG and JM for four but if Emmit, DD, Stan, Max, JH, HP taught us anything it is that we have had problems recently keeping kids. this is exactly what I was trying to say, but it come off wrong... 8bucks 1 Quote
JaybobHoosier Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I'm a little late to this party, but let's keep this topic on point, and only about tracking and talking about Grant. This thread is not about Crean/etc. Let's move on. Kepner 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Yikes Unfortunately, this isn't the first game he's had this season where he's effectively been shutdown. Can't determine if it's because opposing teams have simply shut him down with defense or he's just a streaky shooter. mdn82 1 Quote

I don't how competitive this game was but based on the score - maybe it's bc they blew the team out by 27 points and he didn't have to do much?? Quote
IUfan_Charlie Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I'm sorry, but if he seemingly can't even consistently score 10+ points per game against in-state teams, then I don't see him doing much at IU. I hope I'm wrong. Quote

Old Friend Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 He's just not a kid who's ever going to go get his own points when a defense focuses almost solely on taking him away. Just not the kind of player he is. In that role, he's not going to succeed. In a role where he can space the floor and simply be a shooter, he'll be fine. He's not a great ball handler like Hulls or Yogi. He's Todd Leary. He's Matt Roth. Teams focus on taking him away much of the time, and when that happens, Gelon is not going to be at his best. Give him a year or two in college to develop strength and some additional maturity with his body, and I'd bet he'll be a decent piece. I'm not sure I'd worry about his stats this season because he's playing out of his comfort zone and not within his skill set. He's a recently known commodity which schools focus specifically on limiting. That will never be the case for him at Indiana. Quote
biteoftheapple Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 With what Old Friend stated, he will also be facing more athletic players, players with a much bigger skill set, and many bigger players. Quote
Popular Post hoosierpap Posted February 6, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 6, 2016 Old Friend, I know you really like this signing and I really hope it works out. But let's be honest about things...defenses aren't "almost solely" focusing on taking him away. They're denying ball from what I've heard. One guy, denying ball. No one is adjusting zones his way. He can't create his own shot. He can't get himself open off the ball. It takes a team playing a zone or playing him straight up m2m for him to get his 3's. Now, I will agree he could possibly have a role. I'm just not sure he is quite the shooter Matt Roth was. And my main questions lie on the other end of the floor. But I'll give you that if he has talent around him where defenses need to focus elsewhere and he can sit at the three point line getting open shot, he will hit them. I've really been trying to keep my mouth shut here. mamasa, MikeRoberts, KingPG21 and 5 others 8 Quote
