Harrison's Draft Stock

But that's the world we live in.  Political correctness and double standards are the way of the world.   In the words of Dennis Green, Kentucky is who we thought they were.   I thought they'd made some progress changing the minds of the people who didn't respect or care for them; but sadly, when you behave like entitled babies and you're already perceived as a group of kids who play for a crooked coach so you may not be exactly squeaky clean yourselves....your reputation takes a huge hit whether the mistake was corrected or not; and no matter what the intent was.

It's a complicated dynamic. If you take the younger generation (of which I'd consider myself and Harrison in) that word is almost interchangeable with something like "dude". Just like the word "gay", it's lost all of it's original meaning and connotation. The younger you are the less you see the prevalence of race/ethnicity and its relationship to the n-word and the history or race relations in this country. Obviously there's significant history behind it but it's all but lost in younger kids (as far as the mainstream goes).

As far as it affecting his draft stock, I think it'll be negatively affected due to his attitude more so than what he said.

Just from my perspective, I'm white and several of my black dudes refer to me as "******" so I'm not sure anyone should take it there just in case...

I'm more thrown off at the "f that" statement. He sounds like a 15 year old spoiled asshat.. Dekker and Kaminsky put it on yall... Get over it.. U can't have cake before bed tonight sweet cheeks, maybe tomorrow. Life is rough, I know.

And I'd like to know when Lyles is going to be investigated for the left Judi chop

My daughter was called that once. She asked why they would call her that. They told her if they use the version ending with "ga", then it is friendly. If it ends in "ger", it isn't friendly. I prefer that neither would be used.

There isn't a time even the "friendly" version is acceptable by a white person.

It shows Harrison's immaturity more than anything. That should concern the NBA people, but won't stop them from drafting him.

If kaminsky said that I'm fairly certain Eric holder would file federal civil rights violation charges against him and the entire Wisconsin athletic dept

Holder would have thrown MSU in there as well just because MSU is associated thru the B10....

"We must BRAINWASH people into thinking differently about..."

Oh wait, that was his anti-gun quote from 1995...my apologies.. :D

1) No

2) He would had been shipped to Ferguson, MO for sensitivity training first.

that may change your perspective on this then. I'm extremely close with a few black dudes and they don't see me as anything else then one of the boys so like the other poster is saying, its just like saying dude.. in this context. I'm not young either. We are all 30 to 40.

The real apples and apples comparison is if Frank would have been asked about Harrison and he said f that cracka! Lol

There's actually a good article this morning on Yahoo by Dan Wetzel about this.  Wetzel says Harrison's comment wasn't racist but says Harrison wasn't bright enough to come up with a better derogatory term, so he resorted to one he knew.  Wetzel also acknowledges that if Kaminsky had said it, then it would be an entirely different event with more backlash. The article isn't very flattering toward Harrison at all nor should it be.

I'll back this 100%.  From my experience playing basketball in Indy with both people I knew and didn't know, it was not uncommon for a black person to refer to myself (a white person) as a n****.  In those instances, it was not meant as either a racial or derogatory term.  My take away from Harrison's comment was that he was upset and taking out his disappointment on his opponent.  What he said was immature and dumb, but the intent of the comment was no different than if Harrison had just said "F*** him".

I agree, n***a was very acceptable as dude, bud, homie etc. The mistake I made was I thought ****er was interchangeable with ****ga. I used the ****er form with a group of friends and we we went from laughing around to me thinking I was about to get my arse kicked.

Honestly, it wouldn't have mattered much to me if I had been called that.  At the end of the day it's a word and words have no power unless you give them power.  I just don't like double standards and if the situation was reversed Kaminsky would be getting thrashed, that's my biggest issue.
