Tom Crean to Alabama Rumor Thread

Recommended Posts

Less announce, more confirm. They aren't blind to the the rampent speculation. It wouldn't take much more than a passive reference to next year's team/the program to confirm his return.

Do teams ever confirm?

Has Purdue confirmed Painter will return? Has Illinois confirmed Groce with return?

In 17 years he's won his conference 9 times and finished top 2 14 times, only finishing outside the top 3 twice, and has won 73% of his games.  Granted in weaker conferences.

If that's a "bloop double", Crean wouldn't be a double unless the outfielder was Raul Ibanez and proceeded to screw up a pop fly.

I don't care if Crean is a bunt single. I don't want to switch from a guy who is just as likely to steal 2nd as the guy who barely made it there, anyway.

I want a real, legitimate heavy hitter, that's clean.

Well, for one no cares about Purdue or Illinois. And secondly there aren't multiple articles from national media companies speculating about their job security like Crean has.

I wuldnt pay attention to them. None of them have an original thought.

When is the last time an article from one of those companies said something that made you think, "Wow, Ok. I never thought of that."?

Not that I am aware of... but then again, neither of them have fan base revolts brewing, nor are either of them dealing with rumors of their imminent departure.

in the Crean Saying Goodbye thread, page 20. Don't want to link. Not sure if thats allowed here

Edit: Page 20, my bad

Okay, I just read it. I am sourceless so I shouldn't be critical, but that whole scenario just seems to complex and out there to be true. Who knows though? Every day that goes by convinces me more and more that no change is happening.

I would consider Marshall a solid double, he's been considerably more successful than Crean.  But hey, if Marshall's success is just a bloop double I'll take the bloop and you can keep trying to bunt your way around the bases.

He's not my first choice, he'd be no better than 3rd actually, but I'd still consider it an upgrade.

some interesting stuff on the 247 site regarding Crean, Glass, Stevens, Miller, etc.......

no idea if the posters sources are legit tho

Can you fill me in? I'm blog loyal to BtownBanners

A poster claims to have a source who says that both Archie Miller and Greg Marshall have told IU they'd be open to listening to them if there was a coaching vacancy at IU, but only if Crean had found another job.

He also says that Brad Stevens isn't happy in Boston, and contacted the IU Athletic Department, and told them the same, but Stevens does no want to back out of his contract with Boston.

Sounds though Glass will not fire Crean, Crean would have to leave on his own.

If the poster's source is legit, then it's interesting stuff, but it's more likely another poster with an over-active imagination.

When there is so much national speculation about Crean leaving, one would expect Glass or another IU official to confirm that Crean will indeed be IU's coach next season. That hasn't happened.

As far as I know, there is no national speculation that Groce or Painter will be leaving their current positions. Their job security is not analogous to Crean's and requires no official confirmation to silence rumors.

I didn't say I do pay attention to them, I was just saying that ESPN, CBS, Fox, etc., haven't written articles about Painter or Groce being on the hot seat, or their job's being in jeopardy, but they've written about Crean. That's the difference between IU and Purdue/Illinois.

My thoughts exactly. I don't put too much into it. Especially the part on Stevens. Have a hard time believing he'd tell IU he isn't happy in Boston but doesn't want to exit his contract

A 2004 is an upgrade over a 2003, but i'm hopefull for more.

If its only a slight upgrade i dont see the purpose. Go all out.

Holt is an upgrade over April and im glad we took him, but he doesn't satisfy us. We want Thomas or Maker. I look at the coach the same way

Glass said 3 weeks ago Crean was staying.

Some guys don't lie. If Glass is one of those guys, he needn't repeat himself.

From what I've read, Glass was vague about Crean's job future. If he did say unequivocally that Crean will be IU's men's basketball coach next season, I would like to know where I can find that statement.

Glass did explain in considerable detail how a Crean buyout would be handled by IU. Very curious that Glass would even discuss that if Crean is here to stay.
