IU vs. MSU Postgame

Recommended Posts

Archie Miller, Tony Bennett, Smart and Marshall would be great hires(although I'm not wild about Smart) and a big upgrade. They could do serious damage here. Three out of those 4 would come here and who knows if Bennett has changed his mind.

It doesn't have to be Pitino, Calipari or Donovan. It needs to be the NEXT one of those guys. We missed on Sean Miller and Bennett last tine. We need to stop missing and go Alabama/Michigan on our next top target.

I agree about smart he would not be a coach I would want. I think any of the others would be a good hire. I just don't know If Bloomington can handle another year under Crean. There is a lot of arguments going between a lot of IU fans now that are getting heated. If we switched coaches now I think he could hit the ground running because I don't think JBJ goes pro after this year and I don't think Williams would sit a year. If he underachieves after next year but those players have a good year the team could be fairly bare for the next coach.

Patty Williams is quoted saying she looks forward to next season and IU being ranked #1. Newsworthy: 1. Troy likely returns and 2. Crean is delusional?

@mayaandej: Okay if you are following me and say anything incentive or rude, I will block you. I love #IUBB and look forward to them being #1next year

I'm not against replacing Crean. I'm just not ready for a knee jerk reaction and a piss poor hurried hire.

People liked comparing it to the Matt D at UNC. Fine, then go get a Roy Williams type, not some other mid-major coach who had 1 good recruit that could carry a team.

But, I believe that DURING THE F'ING SEASON isn't the time to talk about it.

during the season IS the time to talk about it IF you don't want a "Hurried Hire". It is anything but a knee jerk reaction, the writing has been all over the walls for a year prior. He was #1 coach on the hot seat in many polls entering this season!

I know a couple of former Crean players...they weren't 4 year guys, they aren't fans

i also realize you can't make everyone happy in sports but this is just one part of Crean's failures in my mind. If it were just one thing or if his decisions lead to more winning it would be more easily excused. Problem is, no matter who's Creaned we aren't winning. So there goes that.

Better angle of the last shot of the first half. SMH...

I was driving back from Texas yesterday. Couldn't get a radio broadcast. Only game cast on ESPN. First time I saw this video. Clearly the 2 zebras were watching the ball at the rim and not the play on the floor. Deplorable non-call. Not that it would've changed the outcome much but, we sure got hosed on that one! Thanks for posting the link.

I wouldn't be so quick to lump Archie Miller in with the other names on your list. He's doing a nice job, for sure. But right now his resume doesn't look all that different from Crean's resume at Marquette. If IU were to go get him I'd root like heck for him, but right now he wouldn't be in my top 5 to pursue.

She's also quoted as saying something along the lines of "we will laugh our way to the bank", so I'm taking anything she says with a truck full of salt.

If Tom Crean were a baseball team, he'd be the Chicago Cubs, replete with the motto "just wait till next year".

Unfortunately, retaining Tom Crean as head coach requires that one believe "next year" will be markedly better than this year, that incoming freshmen will make a decided difference, that current players will stick around AND develop their game, that the team, no matter what its make up, will learn to play, (and/or be willing to play), defense, and that coach Tom Crean will magically become a tactician, a strategist, and a decent in game coach rolled in to one.

That is asking too much of my faith and imagination.

Yes but the Cubs got rid of a newly hired coach to get a better coach in joe maddon. Then they got some pitcher to join them.
