Recruiting Momentum

Recommended Posts

We all have the same allegiances; to IU. A media crendential would be a blast though. I would love to go to all the Indiana games, but I would have trouble in Crean's post game pressors. I ask a question, and Tom would say what do you think. I would say his defense has sucked for 7+ years. Then I would ask another question and he would say "I will have to look at stats or tape" and I would say didn't you just coach the game? Immediate revocation of my pres badge lol.

Ha his "answers" are never that short.

I will add if anyone gives a rats ass. I don't give a damn where you sit on your opinion. I am more opinionated than most (on the negative side). Shockingly most of us mods are. We just take too kindly to a few general rules that are broken. If you aren't down with that I got two words for ya.

You're banned? Nothing like following protocal.

Wayne, I pay for my daughter's IU education in full, no grants, nothing. She is an excellent student, 3.87 at a great Catholic high school, no scholarship. There has to be more emphasis on the value of the education, if the recruits can't understand that their education is valued at $100,000 over four years, with gear and everything else probably closer to 125,000. Besides that, for those who don't go pro, what better business network is there?
I'm just saying, got to find the right kids with morals, and a work ethic to be successful.

I agree with your sentiments here. Unfortunately, the best basketball players don't care about this kind of thing. It's a sad reality.

i was just going to say "this is fun and all, but this thread is about IUs recruiting momentum or lack thereof".

Good post though.

Another thought comes to mind.........
Many have said we don't get the big fish because we don't recruit dirty.

If that is true, how did we get Vonleh, Williams, Yogi, Blackmon, Rob, Stan, Zeller, etc.......?

We were getting them before so the not playing dirty excuse doesn't hold water.

Maybe we don't play AS dirty??? IDK. Just seems like another excuse.

I wouldn't really call RoJo or Stan 'big fish.'  They are solid recruits but not big fish.  Zeller and Yogi were IU's to lose if they didn't screw the recruiting up.  Vonleh and Williams are a little different because they were out of state.  I don't think there was anything there but will be interested to see what else might come from the Boo Williams pipeline in the coming years.

I might a little off on the quote and year but Izzo said something like 70% of the to 20% of recruits are dirty.  Now if you look at who gets most of those players it's pretty easy to see the programs who couldn't care less about the rules.  After he said this his recruiting fell off quite a bit.  There's so many different levels of cheating though.  You have the money dump through back channels like some programs like to use.  You have the little extra benefits others like to use.

I hope IU doesn't cheat and believe they've gone out of their way in the past to makeup for somethings that happened.  I want a program that does it the right way for the right reasons.

Did Crean just start coaching when he got to Indiana, or do all of his other underachieving years count? Can you imagine the size of that final four ring?

. Hopefully the ring would be bigger then kentucky elite 8 rings they got when they lost to West Virginia in 2010

Rob and Stan were both highly recruited but yes, they aren't 5 star big fish. They were 4 star big fish. Top 10 programs were involved in these recruitments and some known cheaters.

We just need to win a recruiting battle again.

RoJo was UNC and I think he saw more playing time here.  Also startng as a freshman...

There are plenty of extremely talented and highly ranked kids that care about morals, work ethic and academics. It takes a lot of hard work to be good enough to be a highly ranked player/potential NBA guy.

Those traits aren't exclusive to 3-star under the radar guys. And, plenty of lower ranked kids have terrible morals, work ethic and academics.

I didn't say any of that... My only point was the blue chip guys some fans want us to recruit don't have an interest in coming to IU for its moral values. They wanna get paid.

Are you a Kentucky fan? Sorry couldn't resist. I've been called that without even mentioning that school.

You kind of said it. You quoted the post that said it and added "I agree with your sentiments here" and then added the part about the best players not caring about those things. So, I took it to mean you thought that too.

There are plenty of blue chip players IU can recruit. Crean's already recruited numerous blue chip players and has been a finalist for several others. I doubt he paid the ones he got, so the blue chippers are certainly available for IU. Maybe not all of them, but they're there. If Crean gets Bryant that's 5 years in a row with a McDonalds AA.

You didn't say this, but I'm just having a hard time with the line of thinking that IU can't compete with the big boys for players because we won't cheat. Under that premise, basically all of MSU, OSU, Duke, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, Arizona, Florida, etc are all cheating?

I didn't say any of that... My only point was the blue chip guys some fans want us to recruit don't have an interest in coming to IU for its moral values. They wanna get paid.

Send them to KU.
As far as IUs moral values go, the campus has been taken over by morally devoid, leftist hippie professors. They exhibit no morals. I meant that we should be moral in recruiting, following the NCAA rules we've agreed upon as a member.

P.S. This post should not be construed as an insult to morally devoid, leftist hippie types.
